Wolf Woman - by Sherryl Jordan

When Tanith was a small child, she was taken from the pack of wolves who'd been looking after her and brought to live as an adopted daughter in a warrior clan. Her dark hair keeps her from ever fitting in, and when the chieftan's wife dies, Tanith is at risk of becoming an outcast.

During her 16th year, she meets a family of wolves who allow her to become a part of their pack. She finds comfort with the wolves that she has never known in human company, and she realizes their ways of living are better than those of men.

But the pledge-son from another clan has fallen for her. Tanith loves him, but does not want to risk the kinship of the wolves. She realizes she must decide if she can accept the ways of humans or if she will live her life with the wolves.

Told in first-person present-tense, this novel contains a sense of urgency that compels the reader forward. Tanith, her love, and the wolves are all lovable characters. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what decisions Tanith would make.
