The pet fish is a wondrous thing. Unlike other domesticated pets, I have not heard of any "real" use or need for enslaving these small creatures other than the less than impressive "they're fun to look at" excuse. I mean they don't protect you from burglars, they don't scare away other pests or vermin, and they don't even do tricks for simple amusement (like running in a wheel). So why is the fish popular enough to maintain a ranking high enough in the pet profile world to rival that of any four-legged animal counterpart? I'm sure the answer lies somewhere in between sheer boredom and the all too common trait of human laziness.
