I'm sure most of you
have heard of Enya, and some of you have heard of Clannad or the solo
albums by Clannad's lead singer, Moya. Did you know that they are all
parts of the same family?
Clannad began when the older children of Leo and Baba Brennan, both musicians, were joined by uncles, Noel and Padraig Duggan. They began in 1970 as 'an clann as Dobhar', meaning 'family from Dore'. The name was later shortened to Clannad. The band performs a variety of contemporary music styles blended with elements of Irish traditional music. They sing in both English and Irish Gaelic.

Clannad: Unofficially,
youngest sister, Brídín Brennan has also performed as a member of the
group on a few of the albums. She, like older sisters, Moya and Enya, has
also begun a solo recording career. |

About the names The members of Clannad and Enya are from one of the remaining Irish Gaelic speaking areas left in Ireland. When I first started buying their albums, their names were still spelled with the traditional Irish spelling. Over the years, after much confusion internationally on the spellings and pronunciations, most of the members have chosen to change the spelling of their names to a more phonetic spelling. Here's the names as they were originally spelled: Máire Ní
