The superb and elegant carriage was used by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Her Royal Highness the Princess Margaret to travel to Westminster Abbey for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. They were also in this carriage for the Coronation procession through the streets of London after the ceremony. It was also in this coach, the second most important of the Royal Mews, that the Queen, the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret and the Princess Royal followed the gun carriage which carried the coffin of King George VI through the streets of London on the 15th February 1952.
The coach as we see it today is a copy of the original because in 1911 all the woodwork was destroyed by fire. It is seldom used by the Queen to travel to the Palace of Westminster for the State Opening of Parliament.
