Many Mansions

Text—John 14: 1-6

Intro:  Are there Mansions in Heaven?

A.    Read John 14: 1-4

B.     Verse 2—“Many Mansions”

1.Wrong View of the verse  (show pictures from “Raptureready.com”)

a.       The Bible says that each believer will be rewarded according to what good deeds he performed here on earth. I thought I'd speculated on what type of abode many Christians might find when they walk up to their heavenly mansion.

b.      Discuss each mansion

c.       Explain that all are equals in the afterlife.

2. What is reason for this thought process?

I.                   Why would there be mansions?

A.    Jesus Was Leaving—John 13: 33

B.     Peter Wanted to follow—vs. 36, 37

1.      Peter and disciples always followed—Matt. 4: 18-22

2.      Others followed as well—Matt. 4: 25; Matt. 8: 1

3.      Only disciples were constant—John 6: 66-69

C.     Jesus was going alone—vs. 36-37

1.      Not exactly new—Matt. 14: 23; Jn. 6: 15

2.      Disciples knew it would be different.

D.    Jesus would return—14: 3

1.      Assurance

2.      Confirmed—Acts 1: 9-11

II.                Is there a need for Mansions?

A.    Definitions

1.      Dict.—

a.       House— a building in which people live; residence for human beings.

b.      Mansion—a very large, impressive, or stately residence.

2.      Vines—Many Mansions

primarily "a staying, abiding" (akin to meno, "to abide"), denotes an "abode" (Eng., "manor," "manse," etc.), translated "mansions" in John 14:2; "abode" in John 14:23. There is nothing in the word to indicate separate compartments in heaven; neither does it suggest temporary resting places on the road.

B.     Purpose for a house

1.      Place to put roots

2.      Place to keep your belongings

3.      Protection against…

a.       Elements—Rain, snow, heat, etc.

b.      Outside invaders—Criminals, salesmen, etc.

4.      Place to lay your head—Lk. 9: 58

C.     In Heaven…

1.      Endless Worship—Rev. 7: 11, 15 (if literal)

2.      No need for earthly things—Job 1: 21, 1 Tim. 6: 6-8

3.      Treasures—Matt. 6: 19-21

4.      Crown of righteousness—2 Tim. 4: 7-9 (vs. 8)

a.       Some preachers talk about crown

b.      Say, ‘Do you want to be the only one in Heaven without a crown of righteousness?’

c.       My question: Who cares?

i.        I’m in Heaven I don’t care whether it’s

ii. A Crown of Right or Burger King crown

5.      Doorkeeper—PS. 84: 9-12 Behold, O God our shield, And look upon the face of thine anointed. 10. For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, Than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. 11. For Jehovah God is a sun and a shield: Jehovah will give grace and glory; No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. 12. O Jehovah of hosts, Blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.”

III.             Review of Pre-Mill Mansions

A.    All mansions are different for all different Christians

B.     Those in Heaven will be considered equal—Rom. 8: 17, “joint heirs with Christ”

C.      Last few mansions wouldn’t exist as you need to do God’s Will—Matt. 7: 21

Conclusion
