Chapter 3

Max came back to the pool table, Maggie following close behind, drinks in their hands.

“Here ya go. I thought you might need another beer after you got done talking to him,” Max said, handing the bottle to Mark.

“Thanks, you thought right,” he smiled and kissed her gently then took a drink of his beer.

“So, what did he come over here for?” Max asked sitting on the stool next to Mark.

“He came over to invite us back to the hotel for a ‘party’; I told him no & that I would see him in the morning. I didn’t feel like putting up with his shit tonight & I know you really don’t want to be around him.”

“Thanks. Maybe at another time, but not tonight. I’ve had to put up with that kind of behaviour for the last 9 months or more from Sully & the rest of the guys. I’m on vacation, I don’t want to deal with it,” she said, laughing.

“Don’t want to deal with what, Baby Girl?” a heavy Boston-accented voice said, just as two strong arms came around her.

She yelped in surprise then turned around and put her arms around her older, but shorter cousin’s shoulders.

“Sully! I thought you and the guys went home to Boston after the tour?”

“We did. We rested a couple days, then decided we liked being around you too much and decided to come bug ya some more!” he laughed. “Who’s your friend?” he asked.

“I’m so sorry! Sully, this is Mark Tremonti, guitarist for Creed; Mark, my cousin Sully Erna, lead singer for Godsmack. Just be glad you weren’t here about an hour ago! You wouldn’t be in such a good mood,” Max smiled.

All of a sudden, Sully’s expression grew stern and his arm tightened around her waist. “Why? What happened?”

“Scott made a bad mistake & tried to make a pass at her in the back hall. But I do have to admit, I was a little surprised at the force of the slap she gave him!” Mark laughed. “I think a little harder and I think he would’ve ended up on the other side of the wall!”

“That’s my girl! I taught ya right! Yeah, I think he’s lucky I wasn’t here. He’s not here now, is he?” Sully asked, looking around.

“No, fortunately for him, he left about 20 minutes ago,” Mark said.

“So, how long are you staying, Sully?” Max asked.

“For about three days,” Sully said as he hugged Maggie. “So, that means, you are stuck with us for another 3 days! You in the mood to go riding tomorrow?”

“Sounds great! Mark, you wanna join us?” Max asked.

“I like that very much!” Mark said. “What about a few more games of pool, tho, before we call it a night?”

“Sounds fun to me! Baby Girl, you’re on my team!” Sully said, laughing. The others can decide how they’re gonna team up! You & me are the best team, right?”

“Right!” max giggled. “Set ‘em up, Maggie!”
