Chapter 19

Alex transported himself to the club, put the announcement of the postponement of the fundraiser at the front door, and then transported himself back to the Manor.

The announcement just said that due to a family emergency, the fundraiser had been postponed until further notice. No other explanation was given.

“It’s done, Kevin,” Alex said as he took the goblet of wine Abigail handed him. “Thank you, m’lady,” he said, bowing slightly.

“Good, Alex. When they get home, we get our answers! I want to know who is behind this & why! At least with everyone here, we can protect each other.” Kevin’s eyes were darkened to almost black due to his anger & worry. “Alex, leave me for now; you too, Abigail. I need to think.”

“As you wish, Kevin,” they said and left the room.

Samantha didn’t knock before going into the library. She walked in, closing the door behind her and went and stood before her husband’s desk. He had his chair turned around, looking outside, and refusing to face her. “I know you’re upset about something, because you never call me ‘Samantha’. What’s wrong?”

“Are the others here?” he asked, his voice low.

“Yes. Look at me, Kevin. You know I hate it when you get like this & you don’t look at me.”

“You don’t need to see me right now,” he said.

“I have seen you angry before. I have seen you in a blood rage during fights. We become what we are, Kevin. Our inner wolf comes to the front. Now look at me, dammit!” she growled becoming angry.

He turned slightly, showing only his profile. “The tall redheaded man in ‘ancient clothing’ is Ian, Kimberly’s brother. He’s an immortal, but half-vampire. He wants to tell us why this is happening, but in so doing, he will lose his life, as will as his brother. Whoever has him doing this is holding his brother hostage to make sure that the job is done. The other reason is that if he told us, everyone I hold dear to me will be in danger. That is why I had you come home. I want us all to be together for better protection. We will survive longer in a pack.”

“Kevin, the others aren’t trained. Yes, Howard is a natural as is Breeze. But what about Selina, Brian, Eadon & Angel? Angel can & will fight if she has to. But a staff can only do so much damage until one of them can make the kill. Give Abigail & me a few days, Kevin. Then you can have your information. Can you do that for me?” she asked, coming and straddling his hips. She reached and gently touched his cheek, seeing his eyes lighten only slightly. His fangs were still visible, but the wolf features were starting to fade and his normal features were coming back.

He sighed heavily, wrapping his arms around her waist and laying his head near her shoulder. Kevin moaned low in his throat as he felt his wife’s gentle fingers run through his hair. He turned his head slightly, nibbling on her throat. When he heard her soft moan, he pulled her tighter against him, then slipped one hand under her loose shirt.

Sammie gasped slightly when his hand touched her bare skin. It still surprised her how quickly he could bring her passion to the surface.

The tension of the last couple of hours was suddenly too much for him. Kevin stood up from the chair, his arms wrapped around his wife, holding her close. He walked the few feet to the couch, lying on top of her. “Sammie, I can’t take it much longer. I need you,” he growled in her ear, as they began to undress each other quickly.

“I wouldn’t go in there right now, Brian.”

“Huh? I needed to ask Kevin a question,” Brian said, turning and finding Eadon standing on the other side of the hallway.

She smiled as she walked towards him. “Trust me. You honestly don’t want to walk in there. “She was upset when we got here, because Kevin wouldn’t tell her what was wrong and went directly in there. That was ten minutes ago. Why don’t we go outside? I’d like to talk to you,” Eadon said, taking Brian’s hand & leading him out to the garden.

Brian couldn’t believe that this was happening. He wanted to get to know Eadon better, but had been unsure of how to approach her. Now here she was, leading the way to the garden because she wanted to talk to him. He knew then that he would leave the priesthood behind & rely just on his Faith and new friends to keep him alive.
