The Town of HarkonThorp

The small villiage of HarkonThorp lies nestled in a valley in the Graywall Mountains. Laying directly on the border between the nations of Breland and Droam. The river Darcast runs along it and lake Widowmark is just a mile or so out. The town had existed most efficiently autonomous. The men of HarkonThorp who don’t work at the prison are skilled hunters and farmers.

Government: 4 Elders which are the oldest deed holders whom elect a mayor.
Law: It has been some time since HarkonThorp had a Sheriff. Everyone knows who everyone is and those whose crime step above a nice beating from their parents are judged by the Elders who are enforced by the prison.
Population: 60 (only 20 men)

Locales:

Town Hall: One of the few buildings constructed of stone in town. Still the passing of years has weared heavily upon the structure. There are mostly unused offices and records stored here. Though the council of elders and the Mayor maintain the place.

The Church of the Soveriegn Host:
Another aging stone structure poorly maintained by the only priest who elected to remain in town. Father Hax and his son Gabrille live here.

School:
This converted barn is probably the best maintained building due to Mrs Redlers diligence. All children learn here and are taught by the only teacher in town. The elder and wise Mrs Redler.

Dunnys Goods:
This is the home and General Store of the old dwarven smithy Dunny Din-Dugan. The shop is large enough to match against any shop across the continent. But the shear lack of commerce in the small town leads to Dunny carrying only what is needed and affordable which isin’t much.

DeadSkin Tavern:
This is the town tavern and home of the Deadskin family. Pronounced “Deeds-Kin”. And old Morgot wont hear no different.

HARKONDEEP PRISON

Harkondeep prison stands some 100ft tall and is approximately 40ft wide at the base. The outer walls were masoned over a 1,00 years ago and consists of a rare form of blue obsidian and other rare minerals. The interior of the tower was rebuild during the last century by General Harkon himself. The interior is consistent of darkoak lumber supported by a skeletal infrastructure of wrought iron. Piping in the walls allows sewage and waste to drain at the towers base. The river Darcast meets the towers rear exit where there are 2 large docks. A nearby supply silo hold food and equipment necessary to the workings of the prison. The first 6 levels of the tower is a hollow shell. Offices line the first floor but the next 5 levels are a succession of prison cells. A single spiral staircase ascends the upper levels. A floating bridge is utilized to reach the prison cells and only one can be reached at a time. There is a single sublevel to the tower which provides exit to the docks.

The Spirits:
The tower is haunted. In the night there are spirits that come and pray upon the tired and unwary. These spirits are hardly noticeable by awake and alert individuals. They seem to know the limit of their effectiveness as they pray mostly on those who sleep. The guards here obey the cardinal rule of never to sleep on shift. The prisoners unfortunately have no choice and thus each night the screams of sinners can be heard. Most prisoners opt to sleep during the day.

Sublevel:
The single sublevel houses storage rooms and quarters for the towers caretakers and tools. There are also additional holding cells. In the floor is a grate which opens to a huge earthen holding cell for mass temporary holding. 2 large oaken doors provide access to the docks and serve as the maintenance entrance into the prison.

Level 1:
Level has all the offices and official rooms. There are 3 main offices used in the past for the Warden, the deputy Warden, and the administration office. The record room is on this level as well. A staircase descends here to sublevel 1 and a single spiral staircase begins here to provide access to the towers upper levels. There is also a scaffold stair which provides access to the floating bridge.

Level 2 – Level 6:
These levels are holding cells. Over time these cells have been subject to much alteration. Level 6 being the most abusive in its confines for it is there where the most vile criminals have been held. Some cells have been altered at different times to accommodate certain prisoners. Some cells have at times been subdivided to allow more people to be imprisoned. Due to the constant changes and alterations each cell has its own personality and uses. Many have nicknames. Each cell has 3 locks. The first of which is triggered only when the bridge accesses a cell. The second is controlled from level one and the third is directly on the cell door. In the past some cells have been magically locked but no remnants of that survive today.

Level 7:
Level seven houses the interrogation room which is adjacent to a room of tools helpful for interrogation or even torture. Across the hall lies the infirmary and healers laboratory. A door here provides access to a small unwalled porch. There are hooks there which at one time were used as gallows.

Level 8:
Level eight is elemental control. Here a massive cog device linked with chains has been constructed to control the floating bridge. A bound earth elemental is trapped here and attached to the device. In addition this room has shamelessly been used as an auxiliary storage roo
