Stormrealm History:
History
-Before the Storm-
The Age of Elves:
Millennia ago the region now known as Storm Realm was known as Kaalasant, the great elven empire. The Eldar had enjoyed eons of peace and forged foundations of unmatched caliber. Their magic too was developed to virtual perfection. The Irdian texts describe Kaalasant as the furthest advancement any civilization has reached and may ever reach. But like all things the age of elves came to an end. The last monarch of Kaalasant was the wise and powerful King Tarsid Sarn. In the year of the serpent, twins were born unto the king. This was considered a great blessing by the gods. The Twins were named Rodyn and Falyn. Rodyn was always the favored son. And it was he who became the great sorcerer of the empire. Falyn always held the darkest of aggression towards his brother. This aggression would eventually develop into utter hatred consuming Falyn entirely. As Falyn fell into darkness, so to did the realm of Kaalasant.
The Mighty Titan Targos and his legions of giants came from the south. They came in the name of righteous conquest and laid seige in the name of unmerciful annihilation. The elves were unprepared for this for they had not waged war in over 3,000 years. Their defenses lied in a single hope. The crook of power held by the King Tarsid Sarn. The crook was the most powerful artifact in all of Korlandor. It was thought to hold unlimited power. The first waves of giants fell to the despair wrought by the crook. But when the Titans forces regrouped and assaulted anew the King found himself betrayed. The crook was gone. The only threat the king could not have foreseen was his sons treachery. The Titan was wise and knew of Falyns discontentment. He lured the prince into his service. Offering him power he could never achieve while in the service of the king. And so Falyn’s decent began. He allied himself to the Titan. In the night Prince Falyn stole the crook of Power and gave it to Targos. With the crook in his possession the Titan was invincible. The fall of the elven empire became a certanty. The magic of the elves provided them the means to resist but it mattered not. Kaalasant non the less fell.
It took 10 years through which Falyn became a great & powerful wizard. When the Titans forces finally overcame the elves it was Falyn himself who slew the king, his Father. Those eldar not killed defending their kingdom were summarily executed. The age of elves had come to an end. The race was virtually exterminated. Of those who survived, only one held any importance. To Falyn’s dismay, his brother Prince Rodyn had escaped. Targos had his minions searched endlessly for the prince. The Titan had seen Falyns’s power grow exponentially in their short time together and feared Rodyn could do the same. He did not want a socerer with a blood vengeance coming back to haunt him. When his giants came up empty he turned to Falyn. He tasked the elf with finding and destroying his brother. That suited Falyn fine. But he could have never foreseen how difficult a task it would be.
Falyns search would take him far from the planet of Toril. Rodyn had embarked on a quest of immortality. Falyn using the secrets rodyn had unlocked, did the same.
-The Age of Giants:
Over 300 years later the Titan had built his own empire upon the ashes of the Eldar. But now the invaders had become the invaded. The dragon army came from the north. Set in action by an immortal calling himself Rodyzarn, the dragons would not be stopped. The dragon’s willingness to conquer the giants at any cost was illogical. Somehow Rodyzarn had convinced Krolandir (the dragon king) and set the dragons on a course that they would never stray from. Thus the Draco-Giant wars began.
As the dragons began to gain an advantage the Titan found assistance. His once obedient wizard returned to him now as an Immortal. Falyn now called Falacurst offered his assistance but warned that any act made to gain an advantage would hold a price to be paid in time. The desperate Titan excepted. And so Falacurst invoked a most powerful enchantment. All giants born from that time forth were born male and grew to be very strong. The giant armies grew powerful. No females to weaken the lines.
The giants began to beat back the dragons but they could not finish them. The Titan grew furious and again turned to Falacurst. Falacurst agreed to unlock all the powers of the crook so that the titan could crush the dragons but in exchange when all was done Falacurst would receive the crook. The titan agreed and Falacurst relayed to him the full potential of the crook of power. The Titan used the rod to conjure the power of the ancient. What had long ago been dubbed the 7 dooms of wrath. The dragon realm was torn apart and Krolandir subdued.
Fallacurst came for the Crook but the Titan refused. Now holding the full power of the crook the Titan was virtually undefeatable. The immortal left vowing to tear the entire empire from the world and leaving them to waste in a black abyss. Falyncurst fled to the borders of the Giantland and began his invocation. But the fiend would never complete his wrath for Rodyzarn came upon him in the night. The two immortals embraced in viscous conflict. The battle was one of legend.
When the battle had ended both were physical destroyed. Not an atom remained of their bodies but immortals need not such vessels. On the night which would come to be called the Dawn of the reckoned storm, a dark cloud appeared above in a violent thunder storm. The storm ripped across the land destroying whole cities. All the lands of the once great Kaalasant were laid asunder.
That was over 500 years ago and storm has not ceased. It calms and skies become quiet. Sometimes for months. But always it begins a new, laying siege to lands below. It is said that the Immortal conflict continues in the sky above. Neither combatant willing to let up. And that the land will never again calm until one immortal is victorious. It is said that if Rodyzarn wins then life and beauty will return to the world. If Falacurst wins an age of Darkness will be born unto the earth and will mark the dawn of an eternity of suffering.
-Demise of the Giants, Rebirth of the Dragons:
Falacurst had foretold Targos that a price would be paid in time. During the draco-giant war Targos had Falacurst make an invocation that all giants born would be strong male. This was done to strengthen the armies. But when the elder females died off there was none to replace their numbers. The giantkin were unable to reproduce. As a result, in time, all of the giant race became extinct. It was men who inherited the realm. Most all dragons
were slain when the Titan unleashed the 7 dooms. Those that remained were the females hidden deep in the safety of the earth. With almost no male dragons left the dragon race also faced extinction. To insure that some form of dragonkind would continue the females took guise. Through polymorphing the females entered the human cites and took mates. And from this was born the race of dragon men. The babies were always born far from the human lands in a mountain to the north. In time the numbers were sufficient to continue the race within itself. It is not known whether any of the old females are left but the Dragonmen of Drakis are of great power and of awesome numbers.
Recent history:
-Life still:
About a century past from when the storm first hit before any life was recognizable. Generations had past. The survivors of the storm had bore a generation of survivors, whose children would venture out and explore. When done they would find places to build and the next generation would see this through. And so on and so forth till sentient beings began to discover others of their own kind. These were eras of gathering and rebuilding.
The first race to do re-emerge were the Irda. They had been the Titans unwilling aids. Scholars and socerers put to use in his deepest dungeons. Dungeons far beneath the surface where the Storm could not reach them. Of the Giant armies that survived their were 2 sects. Those that strove ahead and those that retreated. Those that retreated were led by the great Fire giant Sturgaht. Sturgaht took command of those who were left as the Titan had been mortally wounded in the Storm as was unable to move. He filled his armies out with the human and elvin slaves from the dungeons as well as the Irda and other lower races. They began to rebuild where the great elvin capital had once stood.
Meanwhile the other half of the giant race stood with the Titans general. A Storm Giant of unmatched power. Even though the wraths and the Storm had destroyed virtually everything including his armies. The General refused to cease in his mission. The war was not finished until the great dragon Aerie was breached. As his army lie virtually destroyed he turned to his slaves. Mostly human, elvin and some dwarves. He spoke to them as in truth. That there was nothing left, but one final battle to be had. He offered that they join his army for now the sheltered Aerie of the dragons would be the only place they could survive. If they were to join him he would share victory with them and they would live free in his rule. Most agreed for what other choice had they.
So they ascended Mount Tempest and waged war against those few dragons that remained. The General found and destroyed the great wyrm Krolandir, the last of the dragons. The Aerie was theirs. In time a city would be built within the Aerie. The Stormlord decreed it would be called the Free City of Dragon’s Rest. Eventually the giants died off and the city fell into the hands of the once enslaved.
The giants in south likewise died and the Titan too become a piece of history. The city being built in the south fell to the Irda who immediately freed all the slaves. The humans and elves allied to forge a city of their own. So of the cities created following the
storm there was Iradurn, city of Irda, Haven, city of elves and men, and the Free city of dragons rest.
-Others:
The peoples of these cites thought themselves the only survivors but they were wrong. For their were others who weathered the Storm. The Rock gnome tower of Riptenguard still stood far off in the water now. The gray elven refuge of graymantle too had endured, just barely.
New Races began to emerge. Hundreds of years later the undersurface races would begin to rise for their was little sun in Stormrealm. The drow city of Shadowrise was built. The undercity of Grimgate was unlocked to the world. The gates of the minataur realm of Doomgage were opened.
As time went on their was more interaction between races as became unavoidable due to lack of natural resources. Trade brought the races to gather. The dukedom of Dimspur was built upon the shores of lake tempest. The Gnomes of the newly renamed tower of Riptide began to build sea vessels. The Kenders of Dragons rest seemingly reproducing at an alarming rate had built their own city. Eventually These cites all grew as other survivers came to them. Life had endured. Unfortunately their time is limited. Every race has epidemics of starvation and disease. And to make matters worse, the mass majority of babies born in Stormrealm are stillborn.
The Present:
As the realm sits today, all seems well enough, there is trade, there is peace, and there is life. But an impending thought of conflict seems to permeate all. It has been well noted that the true power of the Lake Tempest cities lies with the Minataurs, and many believe that once the now ancient Stormlord passes on, they will seize control of the city. Meanwhile the Dragonmen of Drakis are far too mysterious and threatening. The Stormlord has shown open disdain for their entire species and they have refused all attempts at any kind of communication. All are unsure of what the future brings, yet everyone thinks better to sharpen their axes before they sleep.
