Natural range: eastern Egypt, Sinai, southeast Isreal, Jordon and central Saudi Arabia
Housing
- aquarium with wire mesh lid is best or deep metal tray cage
- allow at least a 20gal long per pair
- very social and should be housed in same sex pairs or groups
- Bedding: aspen
- Accessories: wheel, branches, tubes, nestbox, wood chew, small dish of chinchilla dust
Food
- mixture of high quality commercial rodent seed mix, rodent blocks and kitten kibble
- should have free access to timothy hay
- provide a cuttlebone for extra calcium and minerals
- fresh fruit or veggies weekly
- mealworm or cricket weekly
Breeding
- Maturity: 3 months
- Gestation: 21 days
- Litter size: 2-9
- eyes open at about 14 days old
- should be weaned by 5-6 weeks old
