Housing
- aquarium with wire mesh lid is best
- allow at least 100gal per trio
- they are social and best kept in pairs or groups
- Bedding: aspen or reptile sand
- Accessories: nest box or cave-like hideaway, tubes, small dish with chinchilla dust, external heat source directed onto nest
Food
- mixture of a high quality rodent seed mix and finch seed
- offer a slice of fresh carrot, sweet potato or other veggie once to twice weekly
- small or large millet weekly
- do not offer a standing water source as they retain all the moisture they need from fresh veggies
Breeding
- Maturity: 8 moths old
- Gestation: 40 days
- Litter size: 2-3
- both parents help raise the young
- eyes open at 30 days old
- should be fully weaned by 7 weeks old
