Siberian Chipmunk

Scientific name: Eutamais sibiricus
Size: 22-27cm long including tail
Lifespan: 4-5 years
Natural range: Siberia, Mongolia, northcentral China, Japan and Korea

Housing

• a large wire mesh rat type cage with levels would be best
• the base of the cage should be about 50cm by 50cm and 1 to 1 1/2 meters high
• generally solitary, they can be housed in same sex pairs if introduced at a young age
• Bedding: aspen or corn cob
• Accessories: nest box, solid rat wheel, branches, tubes, wood chews

Food

• mixture of a quality large parrot seed mix that includes nuts and dried fruit, rodent blocks and kitten kibble
• fresh fruit or veggies once to twice weekly
• provide a cuttlebone for extra calcium and minerals
• occassional mealworm or cricket

Breeding

• Maturity: 9 months old
• Gestation: 28-35 days
• Litter size: 2-8
• pregnant females should be removed from the male
• eyes open at about 20-25 days old
• should be fully weaned by 7 weeks old
• begin handling pups at about 2 weeks old to prevent aggression
