Siberian Chipmunk

Size: 22-27cm long including tail
Lifespan: 4-5 years
Natural range: Siberia, Mongolia, northcentral China, Japan and Korea
Housing
- a large wire mesh rat type cage with levels would be best
- the base of the cage should be about 50cm by 50cm and 1 to 1 1/2 meters high
- generally solitary, they can be housed in same sex pairs if introduced at a young age
- Bedding: aspen or corn cob
- Accessories: nest box, solid rat wheel, branches, tubes, wood chews
Food
- mixture of a quality large parrot seed mix that includes nuts and dried fruit, rodent blocks and kitten kibble
- fresh fruit or veggies once to twice weekly
- provide a cuttlebone for extra calcium and minerals
- occassional mealworm or cricket
Breeding
- Maturity: 9 months old
- Gestation: 28-35 days
- Litter size: 2-8
- pregnant females should be removed from the male
- eyes open at about 20-25 days old
- should be fully weaned by 7 weeks old
- begin handling pups at about 2 weeks old to prevent aggression
