Season 3: Digimon Tamers
In my opinion season three was the best out of all of them. They have a solid and masterfully created storyline with plot twists that surprise you. Their equipment is also complex and they manage to factor in more of the human strength in with a battle unlike the first two seasons (hey, I'm not saying that is bad- I love those seasons too!) The characters have wonderful developing and each have their unique personalities that make you love them. Not to mention this season they sneak in more romance then usual and perfectly weighted romantic tension. The characters interact very well with each other- even each others digimon which is great! The animation kicks butt- it really does and the ending is the best out of all of them.
Characters:
Takato- our new goggle head leader. He's sensitive and quiet, not to mention very creative. He makes close relationships and is a very big dreamer. He created Guilmon out of his imagination and has a crush on Juri. However this usually sweet boy can be driven by rage at times.
Lee- serious and studious he's our martial art/ wise kid of the season. He's a deep thinker who hates fighting because he fears losing his digimon. His dad worked on the Digimon project and his sister is a tamer. He often forgets he has teammates and tries to fix things on his own.
Ruki- Quiet and anti social, unlike the other females Ruki is a true tomboy. She dislikes weak people and believes in power, she's always serious and quick to fight. Later she grows soft and learns the meaning of teamwork and friendship.
Juri: Sweet and caring, but somewhat weird- Takato seems to have a crush on her. She's a great listener and very passionate about what she believes. She doesn’t seem to have the best of esteems. After Leomon dies she goes into depression but in the end Takato and Calumon help her get over it.
::Hirokazu- a smart mouth and a big ego, he tends to dominate over Kenta. Hirokazu is the comedy relief in the group and is in constant search of a partner.
::Kenta quiet and overlooked this boy has a great heart. He looks up to Hirokazu and is often left out.
Ryo is the legendary tamer who was the only one to every beat Ruki at the card game championship. Ryo has a diagnosis of the 'perfect guy syndrome'. Everyone loves Ryo but he is very humble. He seems to have a thing for Ruki but doesn't like him… for now.
Shuichon is lee's little sister who acts as cute as she looks. Shuichon is energetic and loves to play with bunnies. Shuichon wants to help out and fight but lee wont let her which makes her cry.
Mako and Ai: The tamer twins that owned Impmon but their fighting drove him away. In the end they stopped fighting so that Impmon would rejoin them and became his Tamers.
Calumon: is the cutest Digimon out there who doesn’t seem to fight. Instead the little Digimon wants nothing more then to have fun all day but for some reason this little Digimon seems to have a connection with the digivolving power of the Digimon. In the end there seems to be a strong bond between Juri and him.
::Impmon is a devishly almost evil Digimon who loves to pull pranks and hated humans. He thinks he is the strongest Digimon and resents the Tamer's Digimon for following a human and perhaps being stronger then him. It seems though that he used to have two (bratty) tamers before.
::Guilmon- a cute childish digimon who loves food just as much as he like Takato. He's a great fighter and seems to be fire-based::
::Terriormon- small and sarcastic, this cute bunny who has a quick fighting skills and a quick mouth. Perhaps… wind based
::Renamon-swift and cunning, she's a stealth fighter. She's doesn’t ask questions and has unquestionable loyalty to Ruki and always obeys her. Perhaps her element is Earth… either that or ice::
Leomon:: is honorable strong and a known a s a great warrior. He at first was reluctant to be Juri's partner but in end they became close. Sadly Leomon died.
::Guardromon is a machine type digimon who deep inside is chivalrous but his some what of a klutz. He's the sort of goofy hero and copies his partner Hirokazu.
Marineangemon:: is a cute mega that's more of a defensive digimon. It never really says or does much but look incredibly cute. It seems only his partner, Kenta can understand him.
::Cybergdramon is a digimon of few words and has a strange lust for fighting. Only Ryo can control him and he must stay I the digital world because his tendency to wreak havoc
Lopmon: An ex Deva who quit to be with Shuichon. She's sort of noble and quiet but likes to help out.
Misc. Character
Lee's Dad: helped make the first digimon
Shubumi: A mysterious man who has been looking over the Digiworld. He explains everything to the Tamers.
Yamaki: His code name is Hypnos and he at first hates all Digimon but decides later they all aren't bad. So instead he gave up his Juggernaut project and helps the Tamers.
Alice and Dobermon: A mysterious goth girl who is helping Dobermon, a messenger from the sovereigns. He sacrificed himself to give the Tamers the ability to biomerge outside of the Digiworld leaving Alice heartbroken.
The enemies
Yamaki= our original enemy that tries to delete all digimon in the real world by creating the Juggernaut Program.
Devas= Digimon representing the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac that went to destroy the humans sent by the sovereigns.
Sovereign actually only one is evil- and then it turns out he isn't evil at all, he just wants to protect the Digital World.
The D-reaper, or the 'true' enemy. D-Reaper is not a human or digimon which is different, it's a highly evolved program, It's not truly evil but was just doing what it was programmed by. D-Reaper has many extensions such as scouts, weak enemies, the gate keeper, the J-Reaper, ect.
Special devices
D-power: Their 'digivice' that helps them control their digimon. With it they can ;modify' their digimon using cards and check out who the other digimon are. It is also a compass to find things.
Cards: Modify cards are cards they can slash to give the Digimon certain powers. The power card gives them strength, the hyper wings lets them fly, ect. One has to be careful though- if the wrong combo is used it's disastrous.
Blue Cards: They contain a special code that helps the digimon digivolve.
Grangi: A transporter that later seemed to have it's own mind and soul. It changed to it's own 'digimon', more like a horse for a knight. It later combined with Dukemon so he could save Juri.
Story:
The TRUE beginning happens before Tamers begin. A group of college students get together to work on a computer project, on including Lee's (a future tamer) dad. After a lot of hard work they succeed in making a primitive AI being called 'Digimon'. Their Digimon began to 'evolve' and grow stronger so they created a program called the 'D-Reaper' to delete and Digmon that evolved to a high form. Sadly their funding was cut- however Digimon later became a big hit. It soon grew huge with the creation of shows (such as season one and two), video games, card games,… and actual Digimon. However a branch of the Japanese government viewed Digimon s a threat and began to work against the flow of bio emerging Digimon, or the process in which Digimon from their digital world emerge in the real world.
The TV show stars with three characters. Takato, Lee, and Ruki as the new tamers.
Takato is just a normal guy who likes to play with Digimon cards. One day he finds a mysterious blue cards and transform his game machine in a D3- the digivice of the tamers. He creates his own digimon and then actually makes him appear- his name is Guilmon. He becomes friends with lee but Ruki doesn’t make friends so easily.
Takato at first was fighting Ruki, then random Digimon but then a man named Hypnos from the Gov. that is obsessed with destroying Digimon. If that wasn't enough Hypnos releases a program called Juggernaut that in theory will delete all the digimon, instead it backfires and brings the devas to the real world. The devas appear one by one to destroy humanity. Somewhere along the lines Juri becomes a tamer too. She chases after Leomon and he finally stays to be her partner.
In the series they meet up with two rouge Digimon, Calumon and Impmon. Calumon is captured by the devas and the tamers have to save him. With the help of ex-Digimon hater Hypnos the tamers and two boys named Kento and Hirokazu enter the Digital World.
While fighting the devas they meet a mysterious tamer named Ryo who leaves after he helps the tamers who are split up come back together again. and his digimon, Soon after Hirokazu gets his own digimon . Shuichon, Lee's sister gets transported to the digital world and get a digimon that is a Deva.
The turning point happens when Impmon attacks the Tamers. Apparently he stuck a deal with the Devas, more power if he destroyed the tamers. Leomon tries to stop him but instead dies by him. Juri goes in a catatonic state and Takato becomes enraged and reaches a new phase of digievolution- Biomerge. Juri snaps out of it and pleads Takato not to kill Impmon so he is spared, he walks away in shame and guilt for what he did.
Next they go for one of the sovereigns. The bird sovereign was controlling the Devas. A battle ensues, Lee biomerges but it is not enough, there are losing. Luckily another sovereign intervenes and stops the battle stating that humans are not the true enemy. They figure out that The sovereign is not evil, he just thinks that humans are going to in some way destroy digimon. Interested in this 'true enemy' they go and see what it is, they call it chaos. It looks like blobs of pink matter floating but with one touch I could delete a normal digimon. Then Calumon appears and the truth reveals that Calumon is the crystalist of the Digiworld, he is the power to digivolve so he gives back their power or 'light' so all the digimon digivolve to mega.
Knowing the digimon are in good hands they all hop aboard a transporter named Grangi to the real world. Well four things are going at one. First Ryo joins them for their ride home, Ruki saved Impmon, Juri who mysteriously disappeared reappears but is acting strange, and Kenta finally gets a digimon, Marineangemon. After a heartfelt reunion (and a kawaii Jurkato scene) Takato realizes that the Chaos had leaked into the real world and the military is powerless to stop them.
The tamers go out and try to defeat the chaos and realize it is the D-Reaper program that had evolved after every consumption of a Digimon. The D-Reaper has almost he entire world under attack and the Digiworld is almost destroyed *strangely parks and forestry places are untouched*. Takato sees Juri running around and confronts her. It turns out it isn't Juri but J-Reaper, and extension of the D-Reaper. The real Juri is captured trapped in her own mind fueling the D-Reaper with her despair.
The tamers decide to go personal and enter the D-Reaper in their biomerges, Takato has the help of a transporter named Grangi. The Tamers try to defeat it but it's just enough for them to stay a live. Impmon with his new tamers join in and Calumon tries to free Juri and succeeds. Juri fed up with the D-Reaper breaks her hold but the D-Reaper is slowly closing around her forcing Calumon to put up a shield. Takato merges with Grangi, defeats J-Reaper and saves Juri. However the day is not yet won.
While Takato is out saving Juri, Ryo and Ruki are trying to stall for time and Lee is part of a plan Hypnos and his dad made up to defeat D-Reaper. Because D-Reaper is too powerful Lee is going to make a wormhole that will regress the D-Reaper into it's simplest for, simpler then a calculator. The plan is achieved and Hirokazu and Kenta come and rescue them from outside the D-Reaper. Victory is theirs but there is a twist.
In causing the wormhole the digimon cannot live in the 'real world'. The digimon de-digivolve to their lowest forms and return to the digital world and there is no way to get to them. Lives turn back to usual but one day Takato is walking by Guilmon's old hideout and sees in portal to the digital world- the series ends there.
