The Class You're In

[HINT: If you don't know a word, place your mouse over it-- see what happens!]

"Which class are you in?" someone asked Yashodhara when she went to India as a six year old.
"I'm in Blue Door", said the kindergartner of a Montessori school, a little befuddled by the question.

"Blue Door?" asked the perplexed questioner. Her answer was clear to her but not to him.

Big brother came to the rescue: "She means, that she is in kindergarten, and her classroom is called Blue Door."

A simple question, a simple response, but a cross-connection nevertheless.

In the U.S., where Yashodhara goes to school, they'd ask, "Which grade are you in?" "Class" implies "classroom".
In India, the word "class" is used for "grade".

We asked our reporters: How about you? What do you call the class you're in: standard? Grade? Class? Or something else?

England- We call it 'form'.     Cheers. Nived

Switzerland- Over here we say what grade are you in and "class" means classroom. Akriti

U.S.A.- Grade. Raghav

India- Standard. Yashodhara
