Glay I don't ask the reason for last night's tears... Members Vocal: Teru Guitar: Takuro Guitar: Hisashi Bass: Jiro There's something to be said for a band that was discovered by Yoshiki of X Japan. You almost expect something special from anyone with that kind of credential. Luckily for Glay, they don't disappoint. Their music is a blend of rock and pop, sometimes with a hint of metal, but always distinctive. When I first heard Glay perform, I was unimpressed by Teru's vocals. His voice really isn't very strong, and is sometimes kind of grating. However, the more I listened, the more I realized that his voice is perfect for Glay's style of music. Lately, he's improved a lot, too. Jiro and Hisashi are also top-notch musicians, and my house is sort of a Takuro fan-club. ^_^ He's just so cool. Takuro is also the heart and soul of Glay, and writes a lot of the music and lyrics. The songs can range from serious and deep to just plain weird and silly. I mean, what other band has a song called "Fried Chicken and Beer"? The best thing about Glay though, in my opinion, is the fact that they seem like one, solid unit rather than 4 individuals. They just mesh so well. Some bands, like X Japan, rely on the personalities of each member. Glay is one entity. Visually... well, there's not much to say. The Glay boys are pretty tame. Jeans, suits... nothing out of the ordinary. Sometimes Jiro and Hisashi sport wild hair styles, but they can't be considered "visual" by any stretch of the imagination. Like L'Arc~en~ciel, they rely more on their music than image for popularity. Of course, it doesn't hurt that they look very cool. ^_~ If you like the following bands, you might also enjoy Glay: Luna Sea Janne Da Arc L'Arc~en~ciel Hai to Daiyamondo Speed Pop Beat Out Beloved Review-Best of Glay Pure Soul Heavy Gauge Drive-Best of Glay One Love Unity Roots and Family, Away Glay Rare Collectives Vol. 1 & 2 Missing You Heavy Gauge kanojo no modern Winter, Again Yuuwaku Itsuka Shitto Misery (hide cover song) Mermaid More than Love Happy Swing Innocence back to index |
