Plastic Tree ...because I, who know nothing, will one day sleep forever... Members Vocal: Ryutarou Guitar: Akira Bass: Tadashi Drums: Buchi Drums: Takashi (left in 2001) Plastic Tree is one of those bands that not too many Western jrock fans know about. Sure, people have heard of them, but I don't know too many Plastic Tree "fans." The one word that comes to mind when I think about Plastic Tree's music is "unique." They don't sound like anybody else, and I think that says quite a lot. (Too many jrock bands sound alike, in my opinion. But that's a problem with American music too, so...) Ryutarou has this strange voice that in and of itself is pretty weak. His vocals usually sounds kind of breathy and thin, but somehow that makes the songs more interesting. When the song is supposed to be depressing, he sounds depressed. The other members are all very talented musicians, Akira in particular, but I think Ryutarou is really the star of this band. He's just kind of... mesmerizing. It's really hard to find good translations of Plastic Tree songs, but for the most part I think they tend to pretty depressing. Or weird. Yeah, there is definitely some weirdness here and there (check out one of PuraTuri's PVs!) Ryutarou writes most (if not all) of the lyrics, and he's said that he suffers from depression, so that could explain the dark edge they seem to have. Recently, PuraTuri has taken to looking pretty normal. However, Ryutarou used to have this straight, chin-length hair cut and wear lots of lipstick. It was cute! Expect to see the occasional strange hair color, but nothing too drastic anymore.
