Hiro
Eternal Place
Before I write this review, I should tell you that Hiro has always been one my favorite j-pop singers. In fact, her song "Bright Daylight" was the first j-pop song I ever heard. Ahh, memories.
1. Eternal Place
This song starts out with a very simple piano intro, which is always attractive to me. It also lets the listener know that this is going to be a quiet, tender kind of song. The verses are just that, and hiro's voice is absolutely perfect for this kind of singing. The chorus, however, is even better. There is so much emotion in hiro's voice as she sings "tell me how to live without your love," that I was instantly blown away. Good stuff, believe me. The bridge has some nice acoustic guitar; the mood in this song is so well conveyed. hiro deserves to be more well known in the world of j-pop: her voice is stronger than many other singers', including Ayumi Hamasaki. An excellent song. Rating: 9 out of 10
2. Can You Hear My Heart?
Being that this is a B-track, I didn't expect anything too wonderful. Better to be pleasantly surprised than disappointed, right? Well, this one surprised me. It brings back memories of hiro's older work, especially "As Time Goes By." The verses in this song are pretty subdued, but have an upbeat, R&B kind of feel. The chorus, however, is completely addictive. It's one that you will find yourself singing over and over at odd times during the day. This song is almost as good as the first track, which makes this a pretty damn good single! Rating: 9 out of 10
Note: The last two tracks are simply voiceless, karaoke tracks, so it's not worth reviewing them. This is a good single to buy if you are a person who likes a lot of "pop" in your jpop.
Overall Rating: 9 out of 10
