hitomi

1. flow
This song starts very quietly with some very light, music box type sounds. Some percussion in added with hitomi's singing, which is restrined and almost childlike. This is what I would call mid-to-low tempo and does, indeed, flow quite well. The chorus picks up the pace, but only a very, little bit. At first, this song seems a bit boring, but it does grow on you. If the rest of song was more like the chorus, it would get a very high score. Unfortunately, it feels a bit listless. Not a bad song, but not a great one either.

2. BLADE RUNNER
Let me confess something before I begin; I am a HUGE "Blade Runner" fan. Not this song, the movie with Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer. It is, in my opinion, one of the best sci-fi movies ever made. So naturally, I was expecting a lot from this song. It begins with actual sound effects from the movie (Yay!), then moves into a typical hitomi rock beat. This song reminds me of hitomi's song "SAMURAI DRIVE," which was one of her best. This song seriously rocks, especially the chorus. hitomi's voice has that strange tone that gives her songs a unique, almost traditional-Japanese feel, despite the fact that they are loud rock. I love this song; it should have been the A-track. A must-buy!

3. plastic time machine (8.2.1 version)
This is a remix of an older hitomi song which I have regretfully never heard. It opens with some funky, electric-organ sounds, then adopts a fast-paced, rock style. This is an extremely happy song, and the verses will make even the most jaded jpop fan smile. The chorus is pretty good too, if you can ignore hitomi's pronunciation. ("Plastic time ma-seen.) It's kinda cute though. This song is so addictive. You should buy this single just for the last two tracks.
