Sasayakana Inori

ELT's Mochida Kaori

1. Sasayakana Inori (Modest Prayer)
This song opens very upbeat with some cool keyboards, but things cool down a bit when Kaori begins singing. Her voice moves very smoothly over the background music, which has that calliope sound that has become popular lately. The chorus has that wonderful, ELT quality that makes it instantly memorable. It's not as subdued as the verses, which provides a nice counterpoint. The percussion in this song is quite good too, and pushes the song forward without being distracting. ELT is perhaps the greatest Jpop band right now, and this song showcases all their strong points. I strongly recommend it if you are looking for something happy yet serious.

2. Ambivalence
Yay, another upbeat song! ELT is one of the few bands who can make music that is distinctly Jpop, but keep a rock edge. This song moves forward pretty quickly, with more noticeable guitars than "Sasayakana Inori." The verses are great, but it is the chorus that really makes this song as good as it is. Kaori's voice is really powerful, and handles some difficult jumps very well. You only have to hear a song like this to realize why ELT is so popular. there is a strange little instrumental section that is kind of interesting, followed by Kaori's singing more softly. Then, the song bursts back to life. Great stuff. ^_^

3. de ji
No, I don't know what "de ji" means. I couldn't find a translation in my dictionary. If someone knows, fill me in! This is a mid-tempo song that has kind of early 90's feel at first, but thankfully that ends when Kaori begins singing. The thing I like most about ELT is Kaori's voice; it has such a unique edge to it. This song is a fine example of that. This song has a nice, persistent beat, and another great chorus, although perhaps not as memorable as the first two tracks. This song makes me very happy though.
