Porno Graffitti

Another day, another PG single. They've really been cranking them out. I hope this one is better than the last.

1. Lack
Well, it starts out promisingly with some nice grungy guitars and a heavy beat, totally un-Porno Graffitti-esque. Akihito begins singing in a lower register than usual, but is soon back in his normal range. He really sounds great: very confident and full of attitude. This song features the PG jazziness we've come to expect, but the heaviness is really surprising. I like it, even though it's not as catchy as some of their classic songs. The song never really builds the way it should. Overall, I would call it an average outing for Porno Graffitti - solid but nothing special.
Rating: 3

2. Theme of "74ers"
What are 74ers?? Is it a show? An anime? I have no idea. Anyway, it starts with new age-y wind sounds, like something off of "Pure Moods." You remember "Pure Moods," right? Then a harp and some sort of wooden flute (not shakuhachi) come in. It's all very pretty and Celtic, but what does this have to do with Porno Graffitti? I mean, I like it, but it's not even a song. Err... how do I score this? *confused*
Rating: 1 just for perplexing me

3. Anotherday for "74ers"
Oh, goody. They're back. This is at least a song. But it has a weird hip-hop/dance beat that would not be out of place in Dance Dance Revolution. Not to say that it's very fast: it's not. Mid-tempo. The techno-ishness (is that a word?) is really annoying me. Akihito doesn't enter FOREVER... not until after the guitar solo at 1:30 (of a 3:24 song!). Mostly just pointless synthed stuff. When he does sing, his voice is all distorted and yucky sounding. In case you can't tell, I really hate stuff like this. A lot.

Overall Rating: 1.5 - AVOID THIS SINGLE AND WAIT FOR THE ALBUM!
