Oh wait, this does contain LOTS of SPOILERS :o) Can’t help! It all starts one day. People have heard from other people who’ve heard from other people etc. that there’s a tape with a woman who says “You’ll die in one week”, and you’ll get called after you’ve seen it and a voice will say “You’ve seen it”. Journalist Reiko wants to know what all the fuss is about, and how her niece Tomoko died. She finds out Tomoko stayed a week before her death with three friends in vacationpark Izu. And... those three friends all suddenly died. Reiko before found a photo of the kids, taken before they died. Their heads were misshapen. Reiko goes to Izu and is about to ask the receptionist about the four kids, when she sees the tapes in the cupboard. She gets a “view” about one of all the tapes and asks what it is. The receptionist doesn’t know but Reiko can take the movie with her. In curiosity she watches it in the same house the four kids watched it... and gets called. That moment she knows she’s only got one more week to live. Back at home she calls her ex-husband Ryuji. He comes over and first asks about their son, Yoichi. After that, Reiko asks him to take a picture of her. The photo is... misshapen. Her ex watches the movie too, doesn’t get called but asks Reiko to make copy of it, but accidentily Yoichi sees it too. They watch the copy over and over, and so they find out they have to go to Oshima. There they find out the secret of the Yamamura family. Shizuko, who committed suicide, Sadako, who can wish people to die. Dr. Ikuma, who disappeared. Suddenly Reiko’s reminded of the fact that they only got called in Izu, and they go back to Izu. Under the house where she watched the movie, there’s a closed well. They open the well, in the hope of finding Sadako, who’s the trouble of this all. Reiko goes down and finds her in the well, and starts hugging her. Then, the week is over, and she’s still alive. “We’re safe!” called Ryuji happily. They both go home. Reiko is happy, the curse is over and now Yoichi is safe. That was what she thought. Next day, Ryuji is at his house, doing something. The television suddenly starts playing the tape. At the end, a girl climbs out of the well: Sadako. She slowly walks further and... climbs out of the television. Ryuji gets wished to death. Reiko finds out about it and tries to think about what she did different than he did, so she can safe Yoichi. It’s the fact that she copied the tape and showed him the copy. She copy’s the tape Yoichi has seen and travels to her dad. She tells him, he has to watch the tape, copy it and show it to someone else, who has to do the same. And that’s... Ringu.
