Janne Da Arc
Ueta Taiyou
Yay! A new single from Janne Da Arc. I was really excited to hear this after their masterful album "Another Story" won my heart. Will this single measure up? Let's find out!
Yasu looks so serious. |
1. Ueta Taiyou
I knew the minute this song started it would be something different. Mostly because it has a Latin beat! I mean, Janne da Arc has never done anything like this before. It has this nice, salsa feel that is very sexy. It's a very upbeat, fun song with wonderful, suggestive lyrics by Yasu. (What did you expect?) He sounds great too, speeding through the tough vocal lines with no problems. I want to especially point out the work of the other band members though. The percussion and keyboards are really superb in this song, even better than usual. The acoustic, Spanish guitar is a nice touch, too. Then You gets his obligatory awesome guitar solo, and its one of his best. Everything about this track is great.

2. MEDICAL BODY
This sounds a little more like the Janne da Arc that we're all used to. Not that that's a bad thing, but it's not as innovative as "ueta taiyou." This could easily pass for a song from their earlier album "GAIA." The brass section is a little weird, I must say. Everything else is fine, but it lacks the flair of some of their other songs. The melody is a little too repetitive, and it lacks any emotional impact. It's okay, it's just not great.
