ranchers get hay gift PARKER - Four tractor-trailer loads of hay were on their way to the Navajo Reservation on Wednesday to help ranchers feed cattle going hungry because of drought. The hay was donated by the Colorado River Indian Tribes after leaders learned of the lack of feed from the media. "When catastrophe happens, especially when Indians are involved, we need Indian tribes to come together and help each other," Colorado River tribal Chairman Daniel Eddy Jr. said. Navajo President Kelsey Begaye was in Parker on Tuesday to accept the hay and thanked Eddy for his tribe's assistance. "I really appreciate your kindness and concern for what the Navajo people are going through with the drought," Begaye said. "It goes to show that there is unity among Indian tribes and that we are willing to help when there is an emergency." Three loads of the hay were to be delivered to tribal chapters in Cameron, Gap/Bodaway and Hardrocks. The fourth was being taken to Naschitti for the livestock auction this weekend.
