Anya
Anya was, about 1120 years ago, a girl — a girl who'd been dumped and was practicing vengeance spells on men (boils on the penis and other fun stuff). The demon D'Hoffryn got wind of her, and made her a vengeance demon. She carried out her duties for over a thousand years, known as Anyanka, the patron saint of scorned women. She found women who'd been hurt by a man, used a special necklace (her power center) to grant their wishes. Usually, the wishes involved vengeance on the man who'd betrayed them. Anyanka came to Sunnydale to grant a wish for Cordelia after Xander had cheated on her with Willow, but instead of wishing something bad on Xander, Cordelia wished that Buffy Summers had never come to Sunnydale. Anyanka granted the wish, resulting in an alternate reality. Unfortunately for Anyanka, Giles smashed her necklace, bringing Sunnydale back to its normal reality, and leaving Anya stuck in the mortal body of a teenager. D'Hoffryn refused to give her her powers back, and her attempt to use Willow to help her get her necklace back backfired, so Anya continued attending Sunnydale High School. She developed a crush on Xander, and the two are now a (very sexually active) couple. Eventually, much to her delight, Xander proposed to her and she accepted. Giles also hired her to work at his shop, the Magic Box, a job which she is very good at. When Giles left to go back to England he left the sop in her care. She and Xander were to be married but he left her at the altar. She was furious at him and became a vengeance demon again to punish him. She soon discovered that she couldn’t do anything to him though. She would not take him back but when Giles told her he had saved the world from being destroyed by Willow she looked very surprised and proud.
Emma Caulfield
Emma Caulfield, 29, is relatively new to the Hollywood scene. You might recognize her from her stint on Beverly Hills, 90210 as Brandon's girlfriend Susan, or even from her small role on General Hospital as nurse Lorraine. After those roles, Emma had put acting on the backburner to focus on college, receiving a degree in Psychology, but Buffy beckoned. She much prefers playing Anya the mortal, and says that with every new script, she prays that she doesn't see the words, "Anya gets her powers back" — although she wouldn't mind Anya getting her powers back so much, as long as she didn't have to get into the demon makeup. Emma is an "ultraconservative" and politically minded, saying that if Liddy Dole ever runs for office again, "I'm there!" Though she loves her current job, she's not so sure that she wants to be acting 15 years from now, noting that the business is masochistic, and that an actor can never have true peace.
