How to get a date with a movie star
After bullying Nicole Kidman on radio yesterday morning into agreeing to a date that evening and boasting to Spike about the way he would entertain her, Triple J announcer Wil Anderson wasn't returning calls last night. So where were the Hollywood star and the comedian? Had the pair retired to a cosy love nest, or was Anderson simply at home watching his television show The Glasshouse[sic] on video after Kidman stood him up?
The assistant program manager of Triple J, Robert Scott, told Spike that he was sure the actress had kept the date. "I wouldn't answer my phone if I was with Nicole Kidman either," he said.
The story began last year when, during an interview with Kidman, Anderson joked that she should have a drink with him when she was in town, to enhance his reputation. Kidman promised to call him by the end of 2002, and when she didn't, Anderson said he felt mocked. "There were pics of her in the paper at the hospital, and with Antonia, and I suggested on the radio that it made me sick, her spending time with family and sick kids instead of going for a drink with me," he told Spike yesterday afternnon. "I don't think sick children should be visited by a person who would lie."
He and colleague Adam Spencer were on air yesterday when the light on the guest phone began to flash. When Spencer finally answered, it was Kidman. They hurried her on air, and Anderson managed to wrangle out of her the promise of a secret rendezvous last night.
Anderson revealed yesterday afternoon that he planned to wax lyrical about himself during their meeting. "I've been assuming that she's going to be interested in my life, so we'd have a lot to talk about," he said.
