DEDICATION

This HomePage is dedicated:

To SAQAMAW MISE'L JOE, our Nation’s Traditional Saqamaw, our spiritual leader and our Keptin in our Grand Council; to MICKY (Michael) BENOIT; WILFRED DREW, RICKY JEDDORE; ANTLE JOE, AUBREY JOE; CHESLEY JOE; SALUSAL (George Drew) and to SULIAN (Philip (Billy) Joe).

Those of us who were witness to their fast and to the traditionalists in our Nation, the unselfishness and sacrifice of these nine common men, brought about changes that laid the groundwork for our present day Nation and which brought benefits to our Nation these past years and which will continue to bring benefits to our Nation in the future. To those of us who could not be there, let this stand as a record to the achievement of these great men. To those future generations reading this book, understand fully that these common men of our day, though they refuse to consider themselves heroes, are indeed heroes to us and will be your heroes of the future. Remember them always.

To the “OCCUPIERS” the believers, the faithful, who led the first charge in this great battle;

To the “ONE HUNDRED”, who, leaving family behind, took the time to travel to the home city of the Newfoundland government to fight for our cause. Without their support, all these efforts would have failed. Their support and presence ensured the success of of what we all, later on, came to realize was a very dangerous mission.

To our past Saqama’q and other leaders of the community called Miawpukek (Conne River).

And in Memory of: John J. Drew, Tommy Drew, Gabriel Jeddore, Gerard (Gerd) Jeddore, Kelsey Jeddore, Michael Jeddore sr., Gordon John, Mary Agnes McDonald.
