Track 1: The Original Wheelersburg Go-Cart Track A brisk cool wind blew through
the cornfields near Wheelersburg, as the Track Tales team- composed of
Aaron Fry, Erin Carpenter, Jimmy Roseberry, and me, Andy Fry, the team’s
web designer- exited their automobiles.
The grand tour of the old
As Aaron and the team walked the track, tales of victory, photo finishes, and crashes were told. The multiple years of abandonment had taken their fair toll on Aaron’s first racetrack. Even though the front stretch was in recognizable condition, thick brush, brambles, and small trees had overtaken the infield and most of the original backstretch.
Front Stretch Back Stretch The following two pictures show the same corner (turn 3) of the track. One from its prime running time in the 90's, and the other from present day. In the right picture, Aaron is on the pace lap, near the back of the pack, in the white helmet.
Here are some other old shots from the old Wheelersburg track and other tracks from Aaron's go-cart career:
And now we see the AaronFry14.com webmaster at age 4 sitting on the left! On the right is Adam, Aaron and Andy's brother. Track 2: Southern Ohio Raceway After visiting Aaron's first go-cart track, it was only fit to visit the track that Aaron first drove a sprint car on: Southern Ohio Raceway. Even though the abandoned track ran as recent as the former spring, the team photographed it in entirety anyways.
The track had suffered severe watershed damage over the previous months. Other than the surface, though, it was in decent shape. Here are some of those pictures:
At one point, I even made friends with a giant arachnid that I named "Tear-off."
The Track Tales team put together a panoramic view of Southern Ohio Raceway. Since the sun was dropping quite fast, light differences are quite apparent. The track, though, it very visible. The shot came from standing on turns one and two. Click here to see the panoramic view of Southern Ohio Raceway.
For now, this is the Track Tales and AaronFry14.com Webmaster signing off. Look for another edition of Track Tails soon! The Track Tales Team
