Ten Wrestlemania XXI Predictions
1) Triple H will drop the World Title to Batista. I've actually read from a few people that they "won't hold their breath" for it to happen, and I can't help but wonder why. After all, Hunter did drop the belt cleanly to Chris Benoit at Wrestlemania XX. So why is it such a stretch of imagination to imagine him losing it to the beastly, super-over Batista? Whom he also happens to be friends with in real-life, I might add. I dismiss this skepticism as typical anti-Hunter rhetoric. There's always a chance he might retain, but I highly doubt it, and I'm predicting Dave will take the gold.
2) Undertaker's winning streak will remain intact. Though the match (as of this writing, anyway) hasn't been officially announced yet, supposedly 'Taker is going to face Randy Orton at Wrestlemania in another brand-crossover match. A lot of people, to my utter bewilderment, actually are trying to say that, and I have to put this in italics, Randy Orton deserves to beat the Undertaker at Wrestlemania. You've got to be kidding me. My spine curls to think about 'Taker's streak ending to some 24-year-old after he's accumulated 13 or so wins beating everybody from Triple H to Ric Flair. What a horrid joke if Orton breaks that streak. And then all these Randy worshippers try to justify it by saying it'll do wonders for his career. How so? The reason Randy's not overly popular right now has nothing to do with the fact that he hasn't beaten big names; god knows he's beaten PLENTY, from Mick Foley to Shawn Michaels to Chris Benoit to Hunter to Ric Flair, etc. Adding one more big name to the list isn't going to propel his career like these braintrusts would have you think. The reason why Randy's crowd response is diminishing is simply because he sucks as a face. The man needs to be turned heel. It's that simple. He's meant to be a cocky, arrogant, obnoxious jackass- in short, he needs to act more like he does in real life. Something as sacred as 'Taker's winning streak should remain intact until 'Taker decides to hang up his wrestling gear. It should never be ended, especially to some 24-year-old. And I'm thinking/hoping 'Taker will come out on top at this year's WM.
3) Somebody will get a Stone Cold Stunner. I was so thrilled to read that Steve's supposed to be making an appearance at Wrestlemania, doing the Piper's Pit segment. Stone Cold + Nostalgia = happiness. And it just wouldn't be right to have Austin come to Wrestlemania without laying somebody out.
4) Ric Flair will turn on Triple H. It'd be the perfect way to end Wrestlemania; Hunter loses the belt to Batista, and the last vestiges of Evolution are destroyed, all in one blow, at the biggest show of the year. Raw the next night would simply own, just because of that. And hopefully the final death blow to Evolution will bring about a much-needed change in Hunter's character- such as a reversion to the old sledgehammer-wielding, jean-&-leather-wearing badass heel that dominated the year 2000. I loved Evolution, but you know, if it has to end, end it right, and turn Flair on Hunter. It's time for a drastic change, and this would be it.
5) Shawn Michaels will lose enough blood during his match with Kurt Angle to keep the Red Cross in business for an entire month.
6) There will be at least one "You Screwed Bret" chant from some dumbass smark.
7) There will be at least one "You Screwed Matt" chant at Edge. And Lita.
8) JBL will finally lose the WWE Championship.
9) The worst match on the card will be Christy Hemme and Trish Stratus.
10) At some point during the 6-man ladder match, Jim Ross will yell "GOOD LORD! GOOD LORD!!!!!!"
There you have it; my Wrestlemania XXI predictions. Let's see how many of 'em actually come true.
