Yes, sheep. Not your everyday barnyard-animal type of sheep, but in this case your everyday internet wrestling fan type of sheep. The person who reads sites like 1wrestling.com and the Torch, subscribes to dirtsheets, and immediately assumes that everything they read is true. The person who reads Dave Scherer’s “Daily Lariat” and believes that every word that comes out of this man’s mouth is the gospel. The morons who suck up to Scherer on his message board, posting the most derogatory, hateful things possible about a certain wrestling couple, hoping to impress him. The people who wait to see what Wade Keller thought of a Raw or Smackdown before they send in their own feedback of the show, so they can word it accordingly.
These people are sheep.
They can’t form their own opinions, so they all band together and follow the words of another. They don’t take into consideration that “insiders” might have biased sources which purposely try to make the people they’re “reporting” on look bad. They go along with what the rest of the internet wrestling fan-base sees as good or bad- bandwagon jumpers. If Wade Keller says Raw sucked, then 90% of the time all of the feedback on it will also say it sucked. If Dave Meltzer says that Chris Benoit is the second coming of God, then all of a sudden you will see internet fans who never gave two shits about Benoit before praising him to the high heavens on the internet, in message boards, internet columns, show reviews, you name it. They want to be viewed as “cool”, so they have to do this- because they don’t have it in them to stand alone and actually think things that might not be popular.
This in effect either proves that the wrestling internet community is definitely not the majority of today’s wrestling fans, or that the majority of this internet wrestling community is made up of closet Triple H fans. Why does it prove this, you ask? Watch Raw sometime, and pay special attention during a Triple H entrance. You will hear a massive amount of cheering, and a minimal of booing- even when the man is a heel. You will see thousands of flashing camera lights. There can be little doubt as to the popularity of this man. Yet the internet would have you believe that Triple H is the most hated man in wrestling, hands down. So then, either the internet fan-base is much, MUCH smaller than they think it is, or, at live shows, the sheep come out and actually cheer for Triple H. You decide which is true.
Sheep are always going to be a large, large part of the world of wrestling fans. There are plenty of sheep among the non-internet fan-base- like all of the people who like RVD simply because he’s viewed as “cool”, even though he condones drug-use and hasn’t done anything innovative or original in his matches in at least a year. And on the flip-side, the internet fan-base is overrun with sheep, sheep like the examples given in the first and second paragraphs. They claim to be lovers of the pure, technical styles of Chris Benoit and (insert name of some nobody from ROH or a Japanese promotion here). They dedicate entire websites and message boards to Triple H bashing- because places like those are where all the cool, knowledgeable wrestling fans go to hang out and share their “original” thoughts on one of the hardest working men in wrestling (and oh yes, we will definitely go more into this topic later).
Bottom line: sheep suck. Don’t be a sheep. We’re humans, not robots. We’re not supposed to all think alike and it’s impossible that so many people possibly can, unless they’re brainwashed. Get your own opinions, like who you want to like, and if other people have something to say about it, tell them to piss off.
