(2001) Book ~ Will Ferguson Timeline (2000) Book ~ Michael Crichton From the Publisher Destined to become a classic of war reporting, this is a brilliant account of the longest sustained firefight involving American troops since the Vietnam War. On October 3, 1993, about a hundred U.S. soldiers were dropped by helicopter into a teeming market in the heart of Mogadishu, Somalia, to abduct two top lieutenants of a Somali warlord. The action was supposed to take an hour. Instead, they spent a long and terrible night fighting thousands of armed Somalis. By morning, eighteen Americans were dead, and more than seventy badly injured. Mark Bowdens gripping narrative is one of the most exciting accounts of modern war ever writtena riveting story that captures the heroism, courage, and brutality of battle. Reader Reviews Average Reader Review: Number of Reviews: 2 1. Great Account of what really happened in the Mog Reviewer: Reuben from Mississauga, ON. Date: 3/4/2002 11:46:50 AM This book was well written, and easy to pick up and read any time. Though, I found that it was a bit confusing with all the different people involved in the battle, but the author kept doing flashbacks to keep me on track to who these people were and their personal history. I found the maps provided somewhat helpful - they should have been more detailed. Otherwise, a pretty good read. 2. Avg. Reviewer: Bandy from London Date: 2/17/2002 3:07:39 PM I believe that this book was alright but not anything special. I believe that it was poorly written, and the plot dull, however there was a lot of detail, so that was ok.
