But the beastly farmers are sick of losing animals to Mr. Fox and they're determined to stop him once and for all. Armed to the teeth and driving heavy machinery, they shoot and dig until the Fox family is trapped -- then they wait to starve them out. But Mr. Fox is not called fantastic for nothing -- he carries out the most clever plan that was ever planned and the Foxes and their burrowing neighbours need never poke their heads up from underground again! Dahl's deliciously disgusting characterizations will have the readers cheering on the intrepid thief and booing the fiendish farmers, each of whom has a very distinctive and repulsive personality. Ages 7-10. Reader Reviews Average Reader Review: Number of Reviews: 2 1. Favourite Book Reviewer: M Lewis from Ottawa, Ontario Date: 7/28/2002 8:50:34 AM I first fell in love with Fantastic Mr. Fox in grade 2, when it was read aloud to our class during library time. To this day, I can still recall the vivid descriptions and honest-to-goodness thrill of the story. I am rekindling my love affair with Fantastic Mr. Fox as I build a home library for my own daughter. I highly recommend this book to children and adults alike. Don't miss it!! 2. Fantastic Mr. Fox Reviewer: M.Mohindra from Mississauga, Ontario Date: 8/2/1999 11:11:24 PM This is without question my favorite book of all time. I'm an english major in University, and I've read hundreds of so-called classic novels, but this tops all of them by far. Its simplistic premise belies the complexity of the themes Mr. Dahl illustrates. Basic metaphors of good vs. evil, triumph over persecution and monopolies, and elegant illustration by Quentin Blake make this, in my opinion, the best children's book ever written.
