HRH Duchess Elena of Aosta, born Princess of France. She was the wife of HRH Duke Emanuele Filiberto of Aosta, eldest son of the first Duke of Aosta and thus nephew of King Umberto I. The Princess poses wearing a diamond tiara and a collier de chien.

The Duchess also wears a splendid diamond and emerald necklace that belonged to the first Duchess of Aosta, apart of several other diamond and pearl necklaces.

Still HRH The Duke of Apulia, the eldest son of TRH Duke Emanuele Filiberto and Duchess Elena of Aosta, Prince Amedeo, is seen on the day of his wedding to HRH Princess Anne of France. On the death of the Duke’s father, he became the 3rd Duke of Aosta. On the death of Duke Amedeo in 1942, imprisoned by the Allies in Nairobi, the absence of male descendants made the ducal title pass to Duke Amedeo’s younger brother, Prince Aimone, father of the present Duke.

HRH Princess Anne of France on the day of her wedding to HRH The Duke of Apulia. She wore a most discreet and most elegant diamond bandeau and some orange blossom holding her veil of white lace. The wedding took place in Naples, on the 5th November 1927.

The couple had two daughters, Princesses Margherita and Maria Cristina of Aosta. The latter married HRH Prince Casimiro of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, while the first married HIRH Archduke Robert of Austria-Este, brother of Archduke Otto of Austriahungary. Princess Margherita, Archduchess Robert of Austria-Este, is the mother of HIRH Archduke Lorenz of Austria-Este, Prince of Belgium, husband of Princess Astrid of Belgium. The tiara worn here by the Duchess of Aosta is the one worn today by Princess Astrid, Archduchess Lorenz of Austria-Este.

TRH The Duke and Duchess of Aosta, Amedeo and Claude, are seen attending one of the galas held in Athens on the occasion of the wedding of HM The King of The Hellenes and HRH Princess Anne-Marie of Denmark. The Duchess wears the Aosta tiara with Savoy knots and diamond stars. The couple had three children before separating and divorcing in 1982: TRH Princesses Bianca and Mafalda of Savoy-Aosta and HRH The Duke of Apulia, heir to the ducal title of Aosta and currently 4th in line to the Headship of the House of Savoy.

TRH The Duke and Duchess of Aosta pose in formal attire. After obtaining divorce, Duke Amedeo married Marchioness Silvia Paterno di Spedalotto on the 30th March 1987. The new Duchess is seen wearing the Aosta tiara.
