The Human Races

The humans of Migdalia are divided into innumerable competing nations, baronies, sects, religions, bandit groups, and tribes. Humans argue about anything, fight about whatever they argue about, and hold dear among their many deities quite a few that actively encourage that type of behavior.

The longer-lived elves and dwarves respect individual humans, but they do not necessarily respect the entire race. The elves tend to have difficulty forgetting that humans learned magic by stealing arcane secrets from their ancestors. The fact that those early humans then used that magic to begin a terrible war that lasted nearly three centuries does not reassure the elves. The dwarves of Druskeden respect humans as fierce warriors, though they fear the constant political and cultural upheaval that humans seem to bring in their wake.

Humans, however, don’t see it that way. Their greatest heroes outshine the deities themselves, often uniting people under a common banner in ways that the elves or dwarves could only imagine. However, the same could be said of humanity’s greatest villains – and therein lies the challenge facing any human adventurer. As with anything of value, power comes with a cost.
