The Lands of Knights & Dragons, Priest-Kings & Mighty Wizards
|
Dragonlance is a campaign setting
focusing on two continental masses, and a chain of islands between (See
The DL Accessory: "Other Lands"). The primary is called "Ansalon",
and the secondary is called "Taladas." There are a large
number of novels set in this imaginary world, and a great deal of
D&D and AD&D material devoted to the Dragon-lance Role-playing
Game. For thousands, if not tens of thousands of rpg players,
Dragonlance novels and games are an obsession.
The Ansalon setting is what might be described as a "Classic Fantasy World." It is a realm where gods and dragons do battle, knights and wizards clash, in wars of epic scope. Dragons are a primary theme, but the many novel trilogies cover a diverse range of races and characters. Taladas, on the other hand, is what I would term an "apocalyptic fantasy setting." That is to say, that Taladas is a realm repeatedly wracked with titanic natural and spiritual catastrophes--usually as an inadvertent result of some divine/magickal overflow from Ansalon. Between the greater land-masses, lie the Other Lands, which are basically a chain of islands where refugees and outcasts have migrated over the centuries and millennia--trying to escape or being oblivious to the epic forces to the east and west.
