Top Ten Lies About Band
Ahhh, the band. It's something that you'd have to go through yourself to fully understand, but I'll try my best to explain what it's really like. Let me start off by saying how much I hate the producers of American Pie for the "One time at band camp" gag. Let me clear up this nasty little rumor....NOBODY DOES THAT!!! THAT'S NASTY!!! Being a flute player myself I would know. Got it? Good. My friends in band are like nobody else, and we all have one thing in common and that is a love for making music. We're all like a family, we know know each other on a level most people don't. It's wonderful, and at competition or performance is just about the only time you'll see any of us showing school spirit. If there's one thing we all have a great amount of it's pride. The band is one of the most spirited group of people I've ever seen in my life, and I'm not the first to say so. Music is like a drug, I would assume. Once you've had it once, you go back for more and after a while you simply can't live without it. It really gets inside your head. Just the other night I swear I heard crickets chirping the 12/8 rhythm from one of the songs in our marching show. I swear I'm not going insane......That brings me to another point, marching band. It's a lot more physically involved than most people think. I'd like to see you march a fifteen minute show while staying in step, getting to all your spots at the correct time, and while playing an instrument with good a good tone, in tune with everybody else, with all the correct notes and correct rhythms ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Not to mention you do it in a VERY uncomfortable uniform in all sorts of weather. Think you could handle it? You'd like to think so:-P
