THE BRITISH ENCAMPMENT IN SCARSDALE

The monument marking the British encampment in Scarsdale, on October 27th, the day before the Battle of White Plains, at the corner of Weaver Street and Cornell Street.

A closeup of the monument marking the Britsih encampment.

Weaver Street, looking towards White Plains, where British troops, under the command of Lieutenant General Sir Henry Clinton, encamped. The British troops came from this direction, after traveling up Quaker Ridge Road.

The British reached this encampment by following North Avenue, in New Rochelle, and then Wimont Road, on October 18th, which is seen here, looking towards White Plains.

A sign, along Wimont Road, near New Rochelle, that commemorates the British march to the Battle of White Plains. It was removed, years ago, when houses were built along the road. The American troops reached White Plains by following Old Army Road, in Scarsdale.

British Lieutenant General Sir Henry Clinton.
