....to see the future you must look backward....

updated as of Oct. 2nd 2019 .........*

All the Young Droogs is the title of the last major release of junk shop glam rock of the 1970s, it was put out by the team behind most of these compilations of lost. really lost and forgotten singles from the early to mid 70's that this page focuses on, many of the singles have been reviewed throughout the 70s invasion, however not all as some were new to us, see this article for now written by Dave Thompson, released in jan 2019 -

http://www.cherryred.co.uk/crzone/newletters/november/2.htm

see GORDON NICOL's site on IRON VIRGIN for a little more info, seems he borrowed a discography and some info from our site....there are now many reviews of VELVET TINMINE, let it be said we were the first to review it back in the spring thru the summer and winter '02, long before anyone else reviewed it, of which those reviews began coming forth in the spring of '03.........

Eliyahu Rips, the mathematician who discovered the Bible code, appeared by name in the Bible, in the place that the Bible tells the story of God coming down on Mount Sinai. It was clearly no accident that `Sapphire' read backwards spelled `Rips'. Mirror writing is a very ancient tradition. Indeed, the Bible itself says it is the way to see the future. The first of the prophets, Isaiah, said it: "To see the future you must look backwards." The same Hebrew words can be translated, "Read the letters in reverse."

see below for more info on the BIBLE CODE -

OUR REVIEWS OF THE VELVET TINMINE CD ARE HERE AND THE REST ARE ON PAGE 15, BELOW ARE THE MYSTERY JUNKSHOP GLAM FAN's reviews of some of the same songs, this way u can compare 2 different sets of reviews, following that are more junkshop glam songs that did not make the cd,

DAMNED -

'MORNING BIRD'

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FANTASTIC ELECTRIC RAVER !!!!....this song goes into the novelty-glam rock hall of fame, begins with a fuzz guitar cranked up to distortion at the beginning, with the only lyrics in the song which are repeated throughout it go 'MORNING BIRD, HAVE U HEARD, MY MORNING BBBBIIIRRRDDD' !! over and over while the frenzy builds up with a SUPER bass and 3-D-keyboards play gloriously........listening closely to this T.REX sounding glam STOMPER sounds like it gave birth to the whole glam movement, maybe it did somewhere back then, at the moment we are not sure of the date........and no this DAMNED is not DAVE VANIAN and co. this was a glam band from sometime in the early-mid 70's......'THETA' is the b-side to this rare single and only available on the original 45, we acquired this gem in the summer of '08, so how does it sound you ask ? SUPER ! sounds a lot like DEVO, especially like something out of their hardcore DEVO era before new wave....imagine you just dropped some acid and 1 hr later your zooming along to the streamlined bass and guitar notes shimmering along to pure instrumental 3-D fashion :) ....ZOOM !.....Note TIGER B SMITH recorded the original version of 'MORNING BIRD' featuring more vocals than the DAMNED had on their version, we prefer the DAMNED's version, but Tiger's original is pretty good, he had a large poofed out afro and black paint on his face, check out the Pure Pop Blog for more info....

PLOD 'NEO CITY'

....SUPERSONIC 3-D. *...*...* glitter ROCK...*... *......, musically this rare single is along the lines of the DOLLS, and RAMONES, a definite pre-punk number, stylistically its more like MUD meets JOOK, the vocals sound like JOOK as well !!, a REAL super-charged-PRE-PUNK sound .....guitars build up and soar over the mountains....GOOD emphasis on the vocals......, and 'LET's TAKE THE ULTRARAIL TO THE NEW YORK CITY YEA, SOON ENOUGH WE'LL BE THERE IN THE SUN', and elsewhere 'U LOOK SO PRETTY DO U LIKE ME BABY, WE CAN TELL, TRY AND HOLD ME'.....and 'I'LL TAKE U TO SEE THE MOONLIGHT ON THE RAIL'....were there more songs ? possibly according to this link on MARTIN NEWELL on PLOD - http://www.martinnewell.btinternet.co.uk/reader.html

SISTERS 'KICK YOUR BOOTS OFF'

....INTERESTING, somewhere between the sounds of MUD's 'CRAZY', and SLADE's 'COZ I LUV U',this song combines them for an interesting sound, and the vocals sound like KENNY........the intro is shouted 'ALLRIGHT , WERE GONNA HAVE U KICK IT TONITE'!'.......COME HOME FROM WORK BABY, JUST CAME FROM SCHOOL, TRY THE CRAZY THINGS U REALLY WANT ME TO BE, WERE REALLY GONNA GATHER AROUND WERE GONNA HAVE A SCENE, ALLRIGHT GONNA HAVE A GOOD TIME'.........later in the song they sound like a teenage GLITTER BAND....with a chorus of 'hey's'......allthough it did not make the cd here is the review of SISTERS 2nd single

' THERE's A RAVER COMIN' OVER'

( Note: this one ain' t on V.T., we just threw it in here ).......crazed glam single, campy and very enthusiastic, musically somewhere between the GLITTER BAND, and LIUETENANT PIGEON's experimental sound.....has some girls singing along as well,......stylistically it's more of a GLITTER BAND raver with strings !...horns, and a hypnotic beat........'HEY, HEY, HEY, HEY, HEY,.....THERE's A RAVER COMIN' OVER, THERE's A RAVER COMIN' OVER, AND IT LOOKS LIKE SHE'LL BE HERE SOON, AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT'LL BE HERE SOON ( girls - 'YEA' ! ) , SOON, SOON, SOON, SOON,.........SHE WAS THE MOST PROTECTIVE GIRL'........and......I'VE GOT A BROTHER WHO WAS AS BIG AS ANY OTHER, I HAD TO FIND MYSELF A POOR GIRL, TO PROVE MYSELF TO HER......I LOVE HER, NEED HER, I NEED TO MAKE HER MINE'.......but wait there's more to this story.....in late 2011 The Proudfoot website unearthed a gem, a really rare single from '71 by a band called RESCUE No. 1, a single they did called 'LIFE's TOO SHORT'.......the riff from 'Kick Yer Boots Off' had to be taken from this song, check it out at Proudfoot and you'll see what we mean....

FLAME 'BIG WHEEL TURNING'

COOL glam rock with 3-D synths, very much like a RICKI WILDE styled teen stomp, and clocks in at 3:40,.........' WELL IT's SO MUCH BETTER WITH IT's WAY OUT TURN, I STILL GOT U IN MY SITES, I MOVED FROM THE COUNTRY JUST A CITY BOY AT HEART ' ..........................' WELL I WON' T BE HAPPY TILL I MAKE A PLAN , BACK IN MY HOME AGAIN'..... for some time we thought it was a girl singing, but a source said it was a teen kid.

SIMON TURNER 'BABY I GOTTA GO'

a POP-rock # with HYPNOTIC guitar riffs play a beat that goes in circles, and gets faster, and faster as it zooooooms....'BABY YOUR NEVER, NEVER, YOUR SO COLD, LAZY ( YOUR MILK AND YOUR SUGAR ? ) BABY I'M HOLDING IN YOUR EYES, THERE's NOTHING I SEE NOW'.................'NO,NO, NO, BABY, BABY, BABY, BABY I GOTTA GO, BABY I GOTTA GO, CAN' T STICK AROUND HERE ANYMORE'.....( mindless fun :) )

WASHINGTON FLYERS ' THE COMETS ARE COMING '

GOOD song, sort of a 10CC styled pop-rock number with good vocals;......'BURN ALL THE RULES AND THE REGULATIONS, SET FIRE TO YOUR PAST, TAKE YOUR FANCY WIG OFF MISTER , CAN' T JUDGE US CAUSE WERE TOO FAST, AND THE COMETS ARE COMING, THE RAIN IS COMING'

SHAKANE 'LOVE MACHINE'

GOOD pop-rock with acoustic guitar, good drumming, handclaps......'NEVER KNOW IF U PASS ME BY, FRIENDS WOULD STOP TO ASK HOW WAS I, GETTING ON WITHOUT U, HOW WOULD U KNOW U KNOW TO ASK WAS I, GETTING ON WITHOUT U, HOW WOULD U KNOW.....(chorus ) I AM YOUR LOVE MACHINE, BABY U DON' T KNOW HOW HARD IT's BEEN, U TURN ME ON WHEN U WANT ME, WHEN U DON' T'.......

CRUNCH

GOOD BARRY BLUE-type glam pop, handclaps, campy plastic sound as the way these ones should be, 'WHO'S GONNA DO IT, WHO'S GONNA DO IT, WHO, WHO, IS IT U' ?, and 'COME ON, COME ON, CLAP YOUR HANDS, AND STOMP YOUR FEET, OOH, OOH, ON THE FLOOR'.....a rare picture sleeve can be found on our 'gateway 2', see the bottom link of this page....

MUFF

'SEXY LADY'

STEALING the riff from BOLAN's 'HOT LOVE' u know the basic riff that plays along to 'she faster than most, and she lives on the coast, un-huh'.....they play the whole riff throughout the song, thats it ! with a zippy-BOLAN-type guitar sound....campy in quality 'WELL I JUST MET A GIRL AHEAD IN MY WORLD, I'M UPTIGHT AND SHE's NO FOOL, SHE's ok, SHE's ok, SHE's ok'(she'e ok, she's ok, she's ok), and 'SHE's A NAUGHTY LITTLE GIRL, SHE ALWAYS GETS HER WAY, SEXY, SEXY, LADY'.....MUFF had another 'DO THE HAND JIVE' probably a cover of that classic..

MUFF had at least one more, allthough it did not make the cd, here is our review....'HAND JIVE'no this is not the willie and the hand jive tune, rather an original pop-rock tune along the lines of SHOWADDYWADDY, and the GLITTER BAND......it's ok nothing great .......'I'VE GOT SOMETHING FOR U IT's CALLED THE HAND JIVE....DO, DO, DO U WANNA DO THE HAND JIVE WITH ME, DO IT WITH YOUR RIGHT HAND,NOW DO IT WITH YOUR LEFT HAND '.............

AS SOME OF YOU MAY KNOW OUR PAGE 15 WAS A SPECIAL PROMO FOR A CD TO BE RELEASED BY THE RPM LABEL, BUT OUR FIRST DEMO TAPE OF JUNKSHOP GLAM ONLY FEATURED ABOUT 1 THIRD OF THE SONGS THAT EVENTUALLY SURFACED ONTO VELVET TINMINE..... a friend ( we'll call him the mystery junk shop glam fan) has reviewed some of the songs as well that made it to the cd, a couple of them we have not reviewed , here are his reviews -

PLOD- Neo City

Raunchy fuzz-toned New York Dolls styled rocker. Good rising chorus. Even has a guitar solo in it. More Junkshop Rock than Junkshop Glam.

this link here has some Great info by MARTIN NEWELL the singer of PLOD -

http://www.martinnewell.btinternet.co.uk/reader.html

the WASHINGTON FLYERS - 'The Comets are Coming' '

Soft rock pop song with bright choppy rhythm guitar and Roy Wood/Jeff Lynne type backing vocals. 'The comets are coming/You better start running.'

SISTERS - Kick your Boots Off/ Driving me Home

'Kick Your Boots Off' - Fantastic Slade-tastic glam stomp with rousing Noddy Holderish vocals. Kick your boots off come together/Bang your feet on the floor/We'll be kicking on forever/Let me hear you kick some more"............'Driving Me Home' Frantic uptempo song. Think Cold Turkey on speed.

The DAMNED - Morning Bird

Spooky New Orleans voodoo stomp. Great fuzztone guitar. Imagine Dr John if he'd worn stars in his brow.

SHAKANE - 'Love Machine' '75

Breezy summertime pop classic with deceptively downbeat lyrics. "I am just your love machine/Baby, you don't know how hard its been/ You turn me on when you want me/When you don't I'm not your scene."

SIMON TURNER - '(Baby) I Gotta Go' '73

Jonathan King penned bubblegum tune utilising three chords. "Baby I gotta go/ Can't stick around here any more. Baby I gotta go/Not wating for you/No no no." Nice drum break beforE the song moves up a key.

The CRUNCH - Lets Do It Again/Not Tonight Josephine

Personally I don't think this sounds Slade at all! Vocals aren't at all as harsh. Starts off sounding like Hello but when it gets to the chorus becomes more like a lightweight Glitter Band. As per usual with most of the Junkshop Glam singles the b-side is not at all Glam. Well maybe a hint in the solo.......

MUFF -Sexy Sexy Lady/Burnin'

Very MUD/KENNY. Think Fancy Pants crossed with Tiger Feet. Has a rock and roll feel. The b-side Burnin' has no distinguishing features. Has what sounds like an electric sitar on it - probably a coral guitar - which is used too sparingly.

FLAME - Big Wheels Turning.

Glam Motown song.Recorded in Berry Gordy's garage - if he'd lived in London suburbia.

Don't know about b-sides for Flame and The Damned as I don't own copies.

( Note: There was another band called Flame, who had an lp in '77 called "Queen of the Neighborhood", a song from their "Beg Me' is reviewed on page 12, see the bottom of our homepage for the link....)

the mystery junk shop glam fan also had this to say about the rare SON of a GUN b side to 'MAISON D'AMOUR' ( see page 4 for original review of the single), and the WASHINGTON FLYERS 'another saturday nite'

'Another Saturday Night'

a bit Roxy-ish, with a stacatto keyboard and a warbling vocal delivery........ once the song gets going the singer adopts a throaty Gary Holton rasp( he of the HEAVY METAL KIDS, see page 4)

Son Of A Gun b-side - All Smoke And No Fire

Bit of a 70's rocker. But not in a particularly good way. Reminds me in places of Sunshine Of Your Love by Cream. Some nice high "la la la" backing vocals and staccato piano part.

'Shakane are another obscure Youngblood outfit, who sounded not unlikethe semi-acoustic early Sweet, with a soupcon of Cockney Rebel, on Love Machine. The band, drummer John Phillips, bass player John strange, guitarists Brian Trusler and Adrian Castillo, who also fronted the band as lead vocalists, were all from Bristol.

They began life as The Datones and finally secured a top 5 hit in 1971 in sweden as Shakane with a single called Big Time. Love Machine led off their second, and last album for Youngblood, Dance of the Dead. Another (presumably) fictional band were The Washington Flyers who recorded one of the great Junkshop Glam double-siders, Another Saturday Morning/The Comet Are Coming. Lightly apocalyptic, Comets was written and sung by one Jimmy Edwards, a veteran of sixties groups The Neat Change (I Lied to Auntie May on decca) and English Rose(stars of the Groupie Girl soundtrack).

He also recorded as Rotten To The Core, later producing Flintlock before becoming a member of Sham 69's touring band!'

WELL NOW DON'T THESE BANDS SOUND GREAT ? THE BAND CALLED THE DAMNED ABOVE IS NOT THE GREAT PUNK BAND, BUT ANOTHER BAND FROM THE GLAM ERA WHO USED THAT NAME, ACTUALLY RAT SCABIES WAS IN THE TARTAN HORDE ALONG WITH NICK LOWE IN '75 WHO HAD A GREAT B.C. ROLLERS TRIBUTE SONG AND B SIDE, WHICH IS REVIEWED ON PAGE 15 , ALONG WITH THE REST OF THE SONGS THAT WILL GO ONTO THE CD, AND MANY MORE....

the BIBLE CODE

some of you viewers out there have heard of the Bible Code, whether in theory or the book itself written by MICHAEL DROSNIN, the 'code' is said to be an ancient computer program put there by GOD himself, whether directly or indirectly, the fact remains these predictions of our wars, assasinations and other events have all been predicted in the bible 2000 yrs ago,here are 2 quotes which are in the beginning of the book ;

'BUT THOU O DANIEL, SHUT UP THE WORDS AND SEAL THE BOOK UNTIL THE END OF TIME' - book Daniel 12:4

'THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE IS ONLY AN ILLUSION, HOWEVER PERSISTENT' - ALBERT EINSTEIN 1955

more on these 2 below, first

here is an excert from the Bible Code site;

How Unusual Are Paired Messages?

Drosnin and others sometimes admit that finding isolated hidden names or messages can be the product of random chance. But they claim that finding linked pairs or triples of names or words is so improbable that doing so proves the supernatural, divine, or alien origin of the "message." In Drosnin's words, Consistently, the Bible code brings together interlocking words that reveal related information. In experiment after experiment, the crossword puzzles were found only in the Bible..........

the sealed book discussed in Daniel is exactly that, but which was meant to be discovered only thru a ccomplex series of analyzing thru a computer, which in our day and age is possible, and has been done by scholars such as DROSNIN.....in fact pick up this book and you'll see actual proof of revelations that were prophecized 2000 yrs ago and came true from world wars 1 and 2, thru terrorist attacks in the 90s

as for EINSTEIN's quote - 'THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE IS ONLY AN ILLUSION, HOWEVER PERSISTENT'.........he like PRABHUPADA is suggesting that time is only a material expierence and does not exist in the spiritual world, for those of you too STUPID to figure out what we here at this site are trying to convey,.........our senses with which we use to exist within these bodies on this planet are conditioned by elements such as time, time in the spiritual world takes on a whole new meaning.......so long long ago God understood what humans would accross when discovering the BIBLE CODE.....

here is an excert from the book

'POSSIBLY THERE ARE 2 OPPOSING STATEMENTS ALWAYS ENCODED TO PRESERVE OUR FREE WILL, AND IT MAY BE THAT THE BIBLE CODE IS WRITTEN AS A DEBATE, SAID RIPS. ACCORDING TO MIDRASH, THE WORLD WAS CREATED TWICE-IT WAS FIRST CONCEIVED FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF ABSOLUTE JUDGEMENT, RIGHT AND WRONG. THEN GOD SAW THAT THE WORLD COULD NOT EXIST THIS WAY, THAT THERE WAS NO ROOM FOR HUMAN IMPERFECTION, AND THEN HE ADDED MERCY'

Someone hid in the bible a warning-the information we need to prevent the destruction of this world.

....world war 3 is predicted in 2006, with the rocket scientist we have for a president, this seems more and more evident as time goes by, BUT COMING BACK TO THIS SECTION HERE IN 2007, seems it did not happen, still all the other revelations have come true...........in the old testament God spoke to the people directly in 2 forms, one on top of a mountain when he gave the basic laws known as the 10 commandments, and again in the form of a BURNING BUSH, ironically today we have a BUSH in office who lies, and decieves our planet so as to promote the aims of the conservative menace, this is obvious, in fact the words 'terrorists', and 'nuclear weapons' are found in the bible code, and suggests the world will come into a devastating war......... what to do ? many have forgotten thru the power of prayer one can help to alter the course of history......SENECA suggested this way back when, to find out more about him, see our friend Bill's site below.........( see more on the bible code below).....

MAGPIE

20 Starbuck - Do You Like Boys ( reviewed page 4)

21 Edwina Biglet & The Miglets - Thing (RCA)

Notes;

the BO FLYERS song 'DO THE BUSTER' was considered, but did not make the cut, they had another with 'WISHIN U WELL', and yet another with 'IF SATURDAY COULD ONLY LAST FOREVER/17 TEENAGE DREAM'

.....also considered was MUNGO JERRY's 'OPEN UP',.......... EDWINA BIGLET's b side of the above was called 'Vanessa's Luminous Dog Coat' and released in '72, SMALL WONDER's flipside to the above was called 'ORDINARY BOY ( it is reviewed on page 4), the mystery glam fan says their 'RIDE A BLACK SHEEP' is a total ripoff of T.REX's 'JEEPSTER' ( we agree ).......PAUL ST JOHN's flipside of the above was called 'SPACESHIP LOVER', and being from '70, may be the oldest one here.....BILLY HAMON's flipside of the above was called 'AMUSEMENT ARCADE',

reviews of the following RARE singles from 'MORE GLITTER FROM THE LITTER'.......

EDWINA BIGLET and the MIGLETS

'THING'

we reviewed the following tracks more or less in the number how we liked them and this is the best track here ( aside from the 2 JOOK tracks ),..... the compilers of this comp. placed this one at the end for the icing on the cake and it alone is worth the price of the cd, was EDWINA a glam girl of the 70s with only this single and the b side of it 'Vanessa's Luminous Dog Coat' her only release ? we hope she had more,we hope someone out there can tell us she had more including perhaps an unreleased lp,photos, the whole kit and kaboodle because this song is a long lost classic SCI-FI glam-pop number that never was, or shoulda been but only existed maybe in the hands or minds of a few 100 curious buyers who bought odd 45s back in the early - mid 70s because they liked to buy music from bands with funny names, not that BIGLET is a funny name but the song is a funny song,a very campy pop song gone haywire maybe from a band that maybe somewhere along the lines ate one too many SHROOMS, :)who knows.....

the vocalist EDWINA sings in a campy style similiar to ROCKY HORROR music, then the male vocalist sings a line straight out of the british theater like MONTY PHYTON, then the band comes in sounding madder than the whole gang at the tea party in ALICE in WONDERLAND, complete with surreal sounds from the keyboard, yes it's that good ! sings EDWINA ......... ' I'VE GOT A THING THAT GOES ( keyboard squiggle ) WOULDN' T U LIKE ONE AS WELL, THEIR SMALLER THAN MOST AND FIT THRU THE POST ( male singer ) .........NIGHT's ALLRIGHT ON A WINTER NIGHT CAUSE IT's SAFE AND WARM WHILE IT's COLD AT NIGHT, ( alltogether ) 'IVE GOT 1 LESS FRIEND, A FRIEND's GOT A GREEN HEARTED STAKE, THE WORLD I' VE GOT IS ROUND AND CUDDLY AND SITS THERE AT THE END OF MY BED' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......see a picture on our gateway 4

BARRY RYAN

'DO THAT'

this artist was the brother of PAUL RYAN together they had some successful singles in the mid-late 60s......PAUL recorded some under the name MATAYO, ( see page 4 ).....this song 'DO THAT' is something else !..classify under novelty-glam.......the intro starts with 3-D synth notes which shine all the way thru the song, and a singer who sounds like DRACULA starts breathing, then the song picks up pace ??? and is more or less an ALVIN STARDUST-type-LSD-pop-sunshine-FREAKOUT......there is a middle interlude with kids laughing, 'ASHES TO ASHES, DUST TO DUST', and 'FOR A 2 PIECE DOLLAR I'LL GIVE YOU TIME', and YOUR SAVING ALL YOUR MONEY FOR A RAINY DAY'and 'IF THE WHISKEY DON'T GET YOU THEN THE WOMEN WILL, YOU SAID YOU'D DO THAT, DO THAT, DO THAT'..........

we were pleased to receive another tune of PAUL and BARRY RYAN called 'GLAD TO KNOW YOU' in the spring of '04, allthough it did not make the cut for this cd, it is a glorious glam-pop number with electric piano playing wonderfully, BEACH BOYS-type vocals, orchestrated pop overtones..................'(aaaahhhhhh).....GLAD TO KNOW YOU, I CAN ASSURE YOU, IT's GOOD TO KNOW YOUR THERE, GLAD TO FIND YOU, MUST I REMIND YOU, I'M GLAD TO KNOW YOUR THERE....SPIDER, SPIDER TRY AND FIND YA, TIGER, TIGER..............HE COULD TAKE THE RIGHT, LET ME COME INSIDE YOU, GLAD TO KNOW YOU CARE'.............(later)..........'TYPICAL TEASER SHE TAKES A CHANCE'.............more of this star below on the BOOBS comp.

PAUL ST JOHN ' FLYING SAUCERS HAVE LANDED'

this one is BOWIE-type rock, kinda funky with a ufo niose at the beginning, some GOOD background vocals here, MUD-type guitar.......' THE WORLD IS DARK AND COLD, THEY CAME FROM OUT OF THE SKY, THE SKY, THEY CAME FROM OUT OF THE CLOUDS,........FLYING SAUCERS HAVE LANDED ALL OVER THE WORLD, THATS THE WAY THEY PLANNED IT, ALL OVER THE WORLD,......THE CHARIOTS OF THE GODS CAME DOWN THEY FILLED THE WORLD WITH FEAR'..........STEVE JONES played it on his show on sept 7th '04, on 103.1....... he played it first after his intro...if u like this # then check out NEIL MERRYWEATHERS glitter Space rock version of 'SUNSHINE SUPERMAN' from '74.......

RENEGADE

'MY REVOLUTION'

HEAVY glam rock, sounds like SWEET meets CRUSHED BUTLER, with EXCELLENT PROTEST LYRICS ! ' GRINDING guitars, defiant attitude.....'MY REVOLUTION IS SPREADING LIKE WILDFIRE, MY REVOLUTION's GONNA GET U, YOUR INSTITUTION CAN'T GET IN ANYHOW, BUT MORE POLLUTION IS GONNA GET U', and 'R-n-R MUSIC IS GONNA TAKE OVER, YOUR GENERATION IS MAKING THE NEWS' !, and 'TIME TO LISTEN TO THE NEWS', and 'SOMEBODY DROPPED A BOMB ON MY HEAD' !, and 'THANK HEAVEN YOUR STILL ALIVE, THANK HEAVEN THAT WE CAN SURVIVE IN THIS WORLD'.......protest songs were common in the sixties, allthough on some lps u would find a song with political lyrics, RENEGADE along with a few others would in a small way make an impact on the poltical edged PUNK rock that came out in '76-'77........if u like IRON VIRGIN's 'REBELS RULE' you'll like this one...they had at least one more single - 'A LITTLE R-n-R'......grinding guitars, not as heavy as their 1st single, but still a GOOD one.....'LISTEN TO ME POSSE, OH I GOT SOME GOOD NEWS, IT's A GUARANETEED WINNER FOR U TO LOSE YOUR BLUES...........THE DEVIL IS TRYING TO CATCH UP , TRYIN' TO FIGHT U, TRY A LITTLE R-n-R TO PUSH HIM WAY BEHIND U',.....and......A LITTLE R-n-R IS GONNA MAKE U FEEL GOOD, HAVE TO GONNA MAKE U FEEL THE WAY U SHOULD'....and....'YOU'LL FEEL BETTER WHEN U DIE'........ RENEGADE

.............

but wait have you heard the previous single from '73 ? 'LIVING AND FORGETTING/ NEVER LET ME GO' ? the a-side is an incredible hypnotic glam release with female vocals, begins with bells chyming, glam drums, then come in the girls chanting 'LIVING AND FORGETTING, LIVING AND FORGETTING, LOVE IS ALL THAT WE NEED, GIVE HIM YOUR HAND, FOR LOVE IS FREE ( ME ? ), HE WILL SHOW YOU THE WAY YOUR EYES WILL SEE THE LIGHT OF MY, LIVING AND FORGETTING IN A VERY SPECIAL......'..... and the b side sounds more like SON of a GUN, a little like 'Maison L'amour' on the guitar mix but not quite as good as that great track, but it does have a trademark heavy glam rock sound......'LOVE ME GOOD, LOVE ME WRONG, WHAT WOULD LIVING BE WITHOUT YOU'........you can download these 2 great tat the Proudfoot Sound website.

DADDY MAXFIELD

this artist released a cool glam rocker with a fairly hypnotic 3-D beat and with BRILLIANT electric guitar playing complete with a solo in the middle......somewhere in there he sings under his breath 'UH HUH STRUT YOUR STUFF, then the band sings along RAVE AND ROCK, RAVE AND ROCK, COME ON, COME ON' !....JONESY has been playing this one in sept '04 at least twice so far on his show, and he played it several times in '05 if he likes it and plays it, u know it's gotta be w good one, seems he had another with 'OH MY', anyone know of a discography ?

17 BILLY HAMON - 'BUTCH THINGS'

cool glam underside of pop, musically along the lines of ROXY music with lyrics about bikers and guys who wear leather, the singer sounds a bit like DORIAN ( see page 4 ) who was an american singer we believe who had a strong glam number called 'DESTINATION NOWHERE' and an lp....

CAPT. SKIDLID - 'SHE KNEW HIM TOO'

good number with a very english glam sound,a bit of proper english sung-spoke can be heard here too ( lyrics to come )

the WASHINGTON FLYERS 'ANOTHER SAT. MORNING '

Good one........ elec piano begins with an intro someone says 'GOT YA, HIT IT !'.......this song is good-time- WIZZARD-style glam with ROXY horns, and ambiance.....'ano'ANOTHER SAT. MORNING, ANOTHER DAY OF THE DAWNING ON', and 'AGAIN IN THE NOON DAY WHISPER, STATIONED OUT FOR GIRLS AND MISTER SUN, BUT IT RAINED ON EVERYONE, WELL ALLRIGHT, WERE GONNA HAVE US A GOODTIME TONIGHT', and 'I'M GONNA LET THE HOOD DOWN, 130 MILES AND NOW IT's STRONG', and 'THE NITES IN ST. TROPEZ, YOUR A MILLION MILES AWAY', and WE WON'T GO TO BED TILL THE MORNING LIGHT'......GREAT fuzz sound in the middle, sounds like an engine humming......allthough this one did not make the cd, however 'the comets are coming' by the WASHINGTON FLYERS DID.......

KID DYNAMITE

'BREAKING THE ICE'

VERY GOOD pop-glam number along the lines of MUD/CHICORY TIP......elec. piano and a good dance beat, look at these lyrics; 'AT THE DANCE LIKE A ROW OF ANTS ALL THE GIRLS LINED THE WALL, FLASHING EYES AS THE GOOD TIME GUYS TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THEM ALL, .......BREAK, BREAK, BREAK, BREAKING THE ICE, ISN'T IT NICE, BREAKING THE ICE, .....DON'T THINK TWICE.....'she say no she don't wanna go, she just left with a friend', and 'do u wanna dance, and take a chance, baby can i take u home' ?.......our source says they had another at least one more release with 'CALL ME SUNSHINE SUPERMAN', Note ; the band afterwards also had a song about a superman....here is the review of that one

'CALL ME SUNSHINE SUPERMAN'

this one did not make the cd, we just included it here to give u an idea of this popster.......it's a GOOD track, but KID DYNAMITE's single above is better, there is a GREAT 3-D mellotron which comes towards the end of this song which should have been used throughout, woulda made for a much better 'glam' single, instead this one is more old fashioned pop with a touch of glam only, handclaps begin.....'CA CHOO,CHOO,CHOO, CA CHOO, CHOO,CHOO...WELL I PACKED MY BAGS GOT READY FOR THE BIG VACATION, EVERYBODY NEEDS A LITTLE RED SUN SOMETIMES, IN THIS DOG EAT DOG WORLD.....CALL ME SUNSHINE SUPERMAN, CALL ME SUNSHINE SUPERMAN,.....I'M FEELING KIND OF LAZY, .CALL ME SUNSHINE SUPERMAN, CALL ME SUNSHINE SUPERMAN,.....TAKE A JET PLANE RIDE I'M FEELING CLOSER TO HEAVEN.....

ANTHONY BYGRAVES - Painted Lady

good song, melodic underside of glam, lyrics to come.........

STUMPY 'MAKE ME A SUPERMAN'

weak pop number with glam guitar, it's along the lines of CRUNCH, and the guitar in it sounds a bit like BARRY BLUE's 'TOUGH KIDS' ( see page 4).......some lyrics are 'got the same ark, and it's the lone ranger, electric impulse',and 'u got the power hour by hour' ? really though this one kinda blows when compared to the classics around it.....really it's geek music,

STREAKERS

'TURN ME DOWN'

this one is BARRY BLUE-type pop and not so great at all....'YOUR LOOKING SO GOOD I KNEW THAT U WOULD, U TURN ME DOWN, U TURN ME DOWN, U TURN ME DOWN, IT's OVER', a barrellhouse sound on bass and drums accompanies the chorus, more lyrics; CREATING A SPARK TO MAKE A SWEET FIRE, HIGHER AND HIGHER'.........kinda dull number....geek music....

don't forget PRM's 2 other releases ZIG ZAG, and MAGPIE, ZIG ZAG is kinda the 'lost 70s pop' compiled into a comp. see this link for more info -

_______________________________

well we managed to get a few reviews up, a lot of these will be dispersed throughout the site namely on pages 15, 4, and elsewhere, allthough all of them will be here first, then a few like the following 7 will remain here......

the following 7 singles were sent to us to be reviewed, they are from RPM records GLITTERBEST comp. of 70s junkshopglam singles, we have allready reviewed many of the singles from the more well known bands such as the HOLLYWOOD BRATS, and ENGLAND's GLORY, here we'll delve into the lesser known bands, and did they ever come up with some RARE GEMS ! , for the record the name Glitterbest was taken from MALCOLM McCLAREN's music co. while he managed the SEX PISTOLS....

AMERICAN JAM BAND ' JAM JAM' ' 73

very INTERESTING band, first of all this don't sound anything at all like any rock band from ' 72, well ok maybe a musical comparison can be made to SPARKS in the vocals, even T. REX in the music, yet this single is completely original......some COOL lyrics begin this bouncy somewhat 3 dimensional early glam rock tune....GREAT lyrics here.........'SHE's MY LITTLE SHELIA, DANCIN ON THE FLOOR, SHE's GOT WHAT REALLY MATTERS, SHE LIVES WITH THE GYPSIES DOWN BY THE WOOD, NOW I'VE GOT TO HAVE HER, CAUSE SHE CAN JAM WHEN SHE CAN, SHE DOES THE JAM WHEN SHE CAN, ALLRIGHT, ALLRIGHT'...................the band had one other single, we'd recommend this one to KIM FOWLEY fans as well, and we thank the gang behind Rpm for resurrecting this long lost gem, shoulda, coulda been a hit, but small bands like this didn't have much chance back in ' 72...............

taken from the GLITTERBEST cd liner notes ;

All that is known about the AMERICAN JAM BAND is that they released two singles - American Jam on Parlophone in November 1972 and the phased glam stomper 'JAM JAM' on Youngblood, which appears on this compilation, was available in the shops in August 1973. Note; there is also a band called JAM, not the new wave band, rather another glam-pop band of this time, see our gateway 3 close to the bottom for a picture....

Update on the American Jam Band . . . the band were actually a band called Kansas Hook, and 2 members were in a previous band called World of Oz in '69, although they were an uk band they must have spent some time in the states, . .Kansas is a us state, an they had a song or covered a tune by one Keith Barbour called 'Echo Park' which is a sad song although the actual park in los angeles is a beautiful happy place :) . . . other songs are 'nervous shakin', 'soul cake' and 'mr. universe' .

CRUSHED BUTLER 'HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUT' ' 69

see below in our CRUSHED BUTLER section for review....

SPUNKY SPIDER ' YOU WON' T COME ' ' 73

BIZZARRE glam-pop, 3-D synths spin notes backward for a unique and original sound with metallic drum stomps.........COOL single........' THERE ARE NO THING S SUCH AS HAPPY ENDINGS, IF THERE WAS THEN EVERYONE WOULD GET SOME, LIKE THE REST U ALWAYS LET ME DOWN, EVERYTHINGS LAID UP BUT U WON' T COME,.........................IF THERE WAS SUCH THINGS AS HAPPY ENDINGS, I WOULD BE THE FIRST IN LINE TO GET SOME , YOUR THE BEST, HOW DO U GET ME DOWN, EVERYTHINGS ( ) TURN THE LEAF OVER NOW, TURN THE PAGE OVER NOW, TURN THE SHEETS OVER NOW, AND SEE WHAT I CAN SEE'...............(later they chant the following over the hypnotic drum stomping like the GLITTER BAND ).........'HEY, I'M GONNA COME, HEY I'M GONNA COME, HEY I'M GONNA COME, HEY I'M GONNA COME' !!.........CHICORY TIP was one band who made good use of the MOOG, but this one is far removed from that kinda sound, this is actually more pre-new wave with the punky vocals, overall a GREAT effort, and an original glam sound....

from the Glitterbest cd liner notes ;

The frankly rude 'You Won't Come' by SPUNKY SPIDER was released on the Phoenix label in 1973. With its strange shrill oscillating sounds and rhythm generator like drumming the band foreshadowed French Synth Punks Metal Urbain and the sounds of the Sheffield electronic scene of the late 1970s. ( Note Metal Urbain were a top rate French punk band who began in '77, see page 6 for reviews of them )

ONE HIT WONDERS ' GOODBYE '

whoever this band were, they recycled an old 60s riff, hung onto it and went out with a BANG !...........think - ? and the MYSTERIANS hit ' 96 TEARS ', this tune here has that blaring surreal organ and a driving beat, sometimes if u look hard enough in old thrift stores u can find these lost 70s bands who traveled back in time and utilized instruments that were key in making these prehistoric sounds...............some of the lyrics are hard to decipher, here are some.....'U CAN' T MAKE ME LOOK INTO YOUR EYES, ................MUCH TO YOUR SURPRISE, NO MORE HEARTACHES, NO MORE HEARTBREAKS....................GOODBYE, GOODBYE, FIND ANOTHER CLOWN..............(ends with)...........HEY, HEY, HEY, HEY' ,.............and the signature handclaps............GREAT single............

from the Glitterbest cd liner notes;

Lenny Kaye - guitarist in PATTI SMITH's band - compiled Nuggets, the collection of 60s US Garage/Psych classics, which was released in 1972. It proved quite an influence on many Punk groups and from the sound of it, the ONE HIT WONDER single, 'Goodbye'....... It was released the same year as Nuggets ?? on CBS - and written and produced by a Mike Berry.

( Note; the mystery junkshopglam fan stated he did not know if it's the same MIKE BERRY as the one who wrote SMALL WONDER's non-smash 'ORDINARY BOY' see page 4 for that band.... )

TIGER LILY

'AIN' T MISBEHAVIN' '

pop tune, HARLEY inspired, BEATLES influence as well, if u like RITZI's obscure no hit wonder ( see page 5 ), you'll like this tune....and so it goes......'NO ONE TO TALK WITH ALL BY MYSELF, NO ONE TO WALK WITH, BUT I'M HAPPY ON MY SHELF, AIN' T MISBEHAVIN' SAVIN' IT ALL FOR U, .........I KNOW FOR CERTAIN, THE ONE I LOVE'............(later)........JUST LIKE JACK HORNER I'M STANDING ON MY CORNER, I'M GOING NOWHERE.....did u know this band was a pre-ULTRAVOX band ? and this was before SLIK, MIDGE URE's band ( see page 4 ) ever formed in '75, only thing is we are not exactly sure which ULTRAVOX member or members were in TIGER LILY,....

'DOG ROSE'

'ALL FOR THE LOVE OF CITY LIGHTS'

COOL song.........somewhere between rock and glam this tune,..........frantic piano, electric guitars.....'1st TIME UP FROM THE BIG,BIG CITY TODAY, AS I WALK THRU THE STREETS IT WAS NOT MY INTENTION TO STAY, AS THE SUN WENT DOWN AND THE LIGHTS CAME ALL AROUND, I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE CITY, AND NOTHINGS GONNA MAKE ME LEAVE'........(and)........'ALL THE COLOURS OF THE CITY AND I'M SURE THERE SHINING FOR ME, I SAW THE RAINBOW COLORED SKY AND I THOUGHT OH ME OH MY, I MUST SEND A LETTER TO SAY, I WON 'T BE COMING BACK HOME'................... somewhere out there exists an lp from this band around ' 73 or so if u can locate it....

from the Glitterbest liner notes ;

DOG ROSE released an album on Satril called All For The Love Of Dog Rose in 1972 and the single 'All For The Love Of City Lights' backed by All For The Love Of Each Other the following year. Both were produced by David Paramor, relation of EMI producer Norrie Paramor. David also produced The Gods, Head Machine and Mike Stuart Span.

FARM

'FAT JUDY'

rock number, music filitered thru the lead guitar...............'GONNA TAKE A TRIP DOWN TO N.Y. CITY, GOTTA FIND A WOMAN SHE MUST BE CUTE AND PRETTY SHE ALMOST LEAVES A ( ? ), I GUESS I'LL TRY AND TAKE IT, COME ON FAT JUDY, COME ONE, COME ON FAT JUDY, RIGHT ONE, RIGHT ON, U BETTER GIVE ME ALL YOUR MONEY, THEN I'LL LOVE U SO, I SEE YOUR HIPS A SHAKIN', YOUR HAIRS KINDA WILD'...............

Boobs: The Junkshop Glam Discotheque

( this info added july '05, revised sometimes :) )

this is the latest offering from RPM, you can see some rare photos of the IRON CROSS single in our gateway 4, elsewhere several of these songs have been reviewed on our site yrs ago ; KIM FOWLEY, BARRY BLOOD, and the BOSTON BOPPERS on page 12, HECTOR, HOT ROD, SHELBY, and the RATS on page 15, IRON VIRGIN and ANGEL on page 4, SWEENEY TODD below, and GRAEME GRACE in our gateway 1, and what about these others, sound intriguing to say the least, we have a small section for PAUL RYAN on page 4 as well he also recorded under the name MATAYO.......

here is the tracklisting, allthough our copy came with a different tracklisting ~

1 IRON CROSS 'Little Bit of Soul'

cool glam rock, kinda like SLADE doing a cover of this tune of the 60s, think maybe the original band was the MUSIC EXPLOSION, this cover gets the glam treatment, handclaps, elec. guitar, and ENTHUSIASM !....

2 CHUNKY 'Albatross'

mid tempo glam pop, can' t get too excited about it, sounds a bit like BEANO's 'r-n-r gonna save your soul' which was pretty much a dud,.......

3 JIMMY JUKEBOX ( Kim Fowley ) 'Motor Boat' ( reviewed on page 12 )....one of us wrote him yrs ago asking couple questions and sent him our site, he wrote back with a good reply, writing him again asking even more questions we got a response that said - Kim Fowley doesn't need a penpal - we thought that was funny.

4 SHELBY 'Dance With The Guitar Man' ( reviewed on page 15 ) 5 HOT ROD 'love is allright' ( reviewed on page 15 ) ! 6 JETS 'yeah' ( our copy did not come with this number ? )

7 SWEENEY TODD 'Roxy Roller' ( reviewed below, maybe )

8 The RATS 'Turtle Dove'( reviewed on page 15 ) 9 BOSTON BOPPERS 'Did You Get What You Wanted' ( reviewed on page 12 )

10 ROCK REBELLION 'Lets Go'

cool glam rock, 'LET's GO' are the only lyrics, complete with handclaps and slamming guitars.......

11 IRON VIRGIN 'Teenage Love Affair' ( our copy did not come with this one either, whats going on ?, anyways this one is reviewed on page 4

12 ERASMUS CHORUM

' JUNGLE '

glam/funk, kinda SLY STONE meets the GLITTER BAND,........intro has some echoing vioces and sounds like bees buzzing, then syths fire, in comes the big beat.......' WHETHER U LIKE HER U DON' T CARE, U GOTTA GET AWAY SOMETIME, EVERYDAY PEOPLE, EVERYD AY LIVING A LIFE OF BOREDOM, U GOTTA GET AWAY ( band ) GET AWAY. GO, GO, GET AWAY, GO, GO, TO THE HUNGRY..........( chorus ).....HEY HEY, THIS JUNGLE's ALIVE - LIVE - LIVE '................see our section for this band on page 5, and GLAM ROCK BEAR's site for a gallery on the band.....got to hear the b-side yrs later it's called 'THAT IS WHY', this one is peaceful soul with good lyrics.....'WE WERE ALL MADE THE SAME WAY, KEEP ON PUSHING, YOUR ON THE RIGHT TRACK, YOU'LL NEVER GET THERE IF YOU KEEP LOOKING BACK'......encouraging to say the least....... :)

http://bootzandglitz.blogspot.com/search/label/Erasmus%20Chorum

13 BARRY BLOOD 'Poor Annie'

(reviewed on page 12 )

14 GRAEME GRACE 'What Do You Do With My Sweetheart'.......our copy did not come with this track either, but we did review it long ago, see our gateway 1 or somewhere, we don' t know this site is so big even we get lost in it :)

15 ANGEL 'Good Time Fanny'

reviewed on page 4

16 ICE CREAM 'Shout It Out'

( review on page 12 maybe ) 17 PAUL RYAN 'Natural Gas'

Good song, glam-pop with keyboards and nice vocals, not as good as 'do that' another number of his reveiwed above, but still rates highly, see page 4 for other numbers he did, as under the name MATAYO....

18 SENSATION 'Black Eyed Woman'

ok number, trying to lean towards glam, but more hard rock really, and this band gets credit for the worse crap glam number we ever heard called 'BABY', yes all thru the song the word baby is mentioned over and over while the band plays really bad, must have took them all of 10 seconds to write this one.....

19 HECTOR 'Wired Up' !

reviewed on page 4 long, long ago in a place far far away :)

20 REDHEAD 'Looking For You'

( see below for a section on Redhead as well as one on Redbone a native American indian rock band )

well we did not get this one by Redhead either but our copy did come with HOBNAIL's 'she's just a friend of mine' which is allright even though it is a blatant rip-off of T.REX's 'HOT LOVE'....

BUBBLE POP: 20 UK Pop Oddities

'my son the martial arts should only be used to protect the poor and weak'

reviewed aug '07

img

Vol. 5 in the RPM Lipsmackin' series as they call it, a wide variety of odd bubblegum-pop, lost glam, and are offered here, obscure as usual.....all of the tracks here were produced by pop king JONATHAN KING.......these all came out on the Uk label beginning in '72.....these were all produced by King and his team ; JOHN MACKSMITH, MIKE ROSS, JOHN CARTER, who was alos behind the FIRST CLASS 'BEACH BABY', and backing singers -

* STEPHANIE de SYKES !!.........CLARE TORRY and ANNE SIMMONS,....

1. JONATHAN KING - 'Kung Fu Anthem' '73

so begins the acid TRIP with this Super pop anthem.......really a Fantastic opening number, begins with surreal sounding synths, then glorious roman-type vocals, which soar as far as the synths do, then the singer goes 'ooh, ahh, ooh ahh', general kung fu nioses, then the singer/narrator speaks a biblical verse, ' MY SON, WHEN YOU ARE QUICK ENOUGH TO TAKE THIS MUSTARD SEED FROM MY HAND, THEN YOU'LL BE READY TO GO OUT INTO THE WORLD'....later says the narrator......'my son the martial arts should only be used to protect the poor and weak'..... and off the song goes again from where it came or went or it keeps going round in circles, LOVE IT !

2. Teen Wave ! - Ricki Wilde '74

simply the BEST glam # of ' 74, see page 4 for a review....that said the trip takes off in full flight here, zooming in and out like no song has since.......

3. DEL - 'Motorbike Annie' '73

lovely pop song, the trip slows down a bit here while Del sings about a gal named Annie who likes to spin on her motorbike, sparse acoustic notes go round like the spokes on a wheel every so gentle, as are the vocals, Great song ! del has another entry on this comp. see below

4. REDHEAD 'We Ran and We Ran' '74

uh oh, the trip goes bad with a song with Geordie like vocals that sounds so wretched, but like all bad they're so good glam songs, it kinda grows on you, cause it's so bad ya know......interesting synths play against guitars and chorus, only from '74 can music sound like this, it was written by Danny Terrell,....a much better number they had was called 'Lookin' For You' which is closer to the spirit of glam than this experiment which goes nowhere....this band not to be confused with

REDBONE

which were a 70s rock outfit whose members were from various Native American Indian background, they released some singles of laid back 70s soft rock such as 'The Witch Queen of New Orleans' , and 'Come and Get your Love', Redbone was also the opening act introducing the very first Earth Day to the world in Philadelphia, and later in '73 they released a political number called 'We were all wounded at wounded knee' ...see this link for more info on REDBONE -

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redbone_(band)

5. BUNK DOGGER 'Red Alert' '74

......has some pre-new wave experiments with the keyboards and such.....but this one blows, sounds almost as bad as a really nowhere new wave song called 'white niose' off of some comp we had circa '79/'80 by a singer who is best forgotten, anyways it's in that style, uggh,

6. (Do You Remember) That Summertime Woman - Sparky '72

the trip resumes and gets better here with sparse elec. guitar work, decent all around #.....with a cowbell, good beat....

7. Satisfaction - Bubblerock '73

EXCELLENT ! soft pop version of MICK and KEEF's classic done up with strings and lush arrangements, very mellow, whimsical, borders on humorous

8. SIMON TURNER 'Shoeshine Boy' '72

hitting the stride now with a pop-rock number sung by Mr. Turner in his effortless style, this one was probably his first single and afterwards he had hordes of young girls chasing him all over, good competition for Ricki Wilde, but not as good, not sure if this song is about the character from UNDERDOG ?....RICHARD THOMPSON from FAIRPORT CONVENTION played guitar on this song !...see page 4 for more reviews of Simon.......links on Simon -

http://acme.highpoint.edu/~whood/sftacting.html

http://acme.highpoint.edu/~whood/stuk.html

9. RICKI WILDE 'Hertfordshire Rock' ! ' 72

by this point the trip is going bonkers as this one is way off beat, a true novelty number in every sense of the word, sounds like some gorillas are in the background, anyways this one we reviewed on page 4 yrs ago.......good to see it included here,

10. CLIVE KENNEDY 'Late Late Show' '76

COOL glam, subdued, somewhat in the style of RITZI's 'TOO MUCH FANDANGO',.....the few of you out there who have this Ritzi single maybe can relate, this one is a low key track with maybe slide guitar, Clive conjures up images of a smoky night club act while he croons about old-time actors and actresses, GOOD one !

11. TIBBLE - 'We Went for a Drive' '73

SQOOOOSH goes the synths 3-D all the way in this bubblegum pop surprise with sparkles and sunshine :).....really GOOD pop song all the way thru....

12. FLANNELCAT - 'Rubatummy' '73

the names of the songs are as silly as the band's names, the way they should be eh ? this one is a bubblegum instrumental led by a synthesizer, good song....

13. Big Pig, Big Pig & Little Porker- 'Baby Reggae' '76

BAD song, sounds like a wino they hired off the street trying to sing with some little baby nioses in the background, skip this one,.....featured HERBIE FLOWERS.....

14. RICKI WILDE - 'I Am an Astronaut' '72

another GEM from Mr. Wilde, kitsch-pop gone surreal, offbeat, outstanding song really, and like his others listed here we reviewed this one yrs ago, see page 4

15. BRENDON - 'Life in England' '76

good folk number about life in england at the time, he sings about life in the factory, working class values, etc. Brendon also had some lps around this time in the mid 70s, you can find one in our gateway 4 or 5.......

16. DEL 'Gypsy Girl' ' 73

rather GOOD song this one, allthough not as good as the other offer from Del 'Motorbike Annie' above, this tune stands on it's own, again it's in the glam/folk vein.......wonder what else Del did ?

17. TRACTOR 'Vicious Circle' ' 75

kinda offbeat jangly guitar plays in and around this lowkey number, not bad, allright, this band had 2 lps, one was called 'THE WAY WE LIVE'....

18. SPARKY 'You Gotta Have It Sometime' '72

good production on this song, solid drums play to a pop-rock beat, fits in well with the overall display of songs.......

19. SOUND 9418 - 'Sex Appeal' '76

good pop song, but SIMON TURNER did this one much better probably before this version, his was more in a pop-rock BARRY BLUE style....

20. SHAG - 'Clap and Shout' '73

campy, spirited, and enthusiastic shouts and yells and handclaps accompany a pop-rock beat, makes for a FUN ending, and thats what the 70s were all about,........ now then there was a 60s band with this name, with a name like that, you didn't last long, as a shag is slang in the u.k. for a .....

:)

MOJO - "TRASH" - THE ROOTS OF PUNK

( reviewed Dec 9th '06 )

well allthough this is not a R.P.M. release, rather a MOJO MAGAZINE release, we felt it worthwhile to mention here and eventually review, we'll start off with a brief description for now; seems they open and close the cd with 2 u.s. bands; DOLLS, and the STOOGES, so one can say these were the BEST of the 70s pre-punk bands, works fine as an intro, but for those who are looking for harder to find bands you'll find them in between the 1st and last, and apparently the rest are u.k. bands, from pub-rock - to glam - to bands more on the experimental side, MOJO did a pretty good job of making a 70s comp.

1 N.y. DOLLS - 'PERSONALITY CRISIS' '73 - EXCELLENT song, but everyone knows this one

2 T.REX - 'CALLING ALL DESTROYERS' '76 - GOOD song from the back of his catologue, kinda pre-punk, coo, guitars as always from BOLAN

3 HOLLYWOOD BRATS 'SICK ON YOU' '73, definitive pre-punk, DOLLS-like raunch ( see page 4 for original reviews )

4 JOOK - 'WATCH YOUR STEP ' '74 - the BEST from the best Glam band of the 70s, see the homepage, page 5, and elsewhere for in-depth reviews

5 COUNT BISHOPS - 'TEENAGE LETTER' - good catchy kinda rockabilly pub rocker, mid 70s we think....

6 HAMMERSMITH GORILLAS 'GATECRASHER'....decent rocker with vocals kinda screamed by Jesse Hector....from '77 we think,

img

7 KILBURN and the HIGH ROADS 'ROUGH KIDS' '74

VERY GOOD number.......sounds like a band doin' a ROXY music-type number with great results, horns, cha, cha rhythm section, enthusiasm ! this one were the first single from the band,

8 DR. FEELGOOD 'RIOT IN CELL BLOCK 9'

a loooong intro into a decent pub rock song, the singer don' t have the best vocal in town, then again this kinda sits well on a cd of pre-punk, not great, but not bad,

9 EDDIE and the HOT RODS '96 TEARS'

YEA ! EXCELLENT fast version of the classic ? and the MYSTERIANS track of the 60s '96 Tears', real enthusiastic guitar and bass playing and the crowd seems to take part yelling and cheering the band on, the band played a strong role in the pre-punk era of pub rock....

10 MOTT ' THUNDERBUCK RAM'

probably the most commercially successful of the bands here, this number is a slower rock number with piano....pretty good tune at that !

11 HAWKWIND 'MOTORHEAD'

this band too played a part in the pre-punk scene as a band who had a wide variety of sound, from psych - prog - pre-punk, this song recorded in ' 75 was the b-side to 'KINGS OF SPEED' , which was a hit amongst their fans, and this single is a GOOD rocker with a streamlined bass of which Lemmy chose for his new bands name nneginning in the mid-70s

12 CAN 'MUSHROOM'

'Mushroom', or is that 'mushroom head' ? well in the lyrics they sing about a mushroom head, perhaps this was about little magic mushrooms, it's an experimental number that allthough diferent than everything else here fits in nicely with the cd,

13 BE-BOP DELUXE ' SOUNDTRACK'

EXCELLENT song ! Sci-Fi imagery, liquid guitars and great vocals make for a strong single for this band, from ' 75 this one is well worth seeking out and far far better than their bland lp of ' 76, we do like the music from the 1st 2 lps, notb the 3rd though as it is rather dry, BILL NELSON would go onto a longlasting career as a musician....

14 GROUNDHOG ' CHERRY RED'

STRONG rock number, sounds very early 70s with hard bass and guitars and the singing is rather unique as this band takes you for a trip OUT THERE.......

15 the STOOGES 'SEARCH AND DESTROY' - Live ' 74

taken from the METALLIC K.O. live lp of ' 74, the STOOGES were thee band back then, they rip thru this one with the crowd really cheering them on, later IGGY comes on and chats with the audience for a few minutes ' look at those people there so beautiful' says Iggy, the crowd cheers.......

BONEHEAD CRUNCHERS

another series of early 70s no-hit wonders and blunders that surfaced in 2012 we believe, Vol 1 has some so so pysch bands who released proto punk songs elsewhere songs border on hard rock and psych, we were not so crazy about the first vol. other volumes ( there may be about 4 now ) have everyone from STUD LEATHER to STREAK and various no-hit glam singles and heavy rock up till about '77 or so, check out more info here -

more JUNKSHOPGLAM ...(this info added april 22nd ' 04 )

Greetings 70s glam fans, seems as time goes on, new friends write and mention more rare tracks they have come accross, our friend from n.y. send in some rare junkshopglam tracks, some are from the new GLITTERBEST comp. by RPM records as well as the 1st SWEENEY TODD lp of the 70s featuring NICK GILDER.....here is the track listing, reviews to come perhaps sometime ...our friend was gonna send a rare track by the ROLLETTES 'WE LOVE YOU ROLLERS', however we did not get that one ....:(

assorted 70s junkshop glam singles below, will soon be dispersed throughout this site....see pages 4, 12, and 15....

NIMBUS, ZIPPER and BUSTER, have all moved to page 15, accessible from the bottom of the homepage....

GEOFF WHITHORN went to page 4, PAUL and BARRY RYAN's 'GLAD TO KNOW U' went above, and A RAINCOAT's 'PEOPLE I KNOW' went to page 4.....

DORIAN's 'DESTINATION NOWHERE', and FLASHMAN's ' LOVE ME A LITTLE', and lp tracklisting both went to page 4....

MICK ROBERTSON

' THE TANGO's OVER'

HARLEY styled glam pop, with the background singers adding a camp element, small chatter in the background as well...........classical instruments like the violin make surreal pop here, BEAUTIFUL sound overall............' THE TANGO's OVER........................THE NITE HAS JUST BEGUN, IF YOUR INTENDING TO LEAVE THEN ALONG AND RUN.........WE DANCED ALL EVENING, WHY DID U LEAVE ME ON THAT WAY, AND NOW YOUR LEAVING, AND NOW YOUR AFRAID TO STAY.......................THE TANGO's OVER PLEASE CHANGE YOUR MIND AND STAY..........MICK ROBERTSON was one of the hosts of the Bbc television show - MAGPIE......... :)

TEARS

well our friend who sent in a writeup on this swedish band was right ( STEN at the IMPOSSIBLE DISCOGRAPHIES ) this is very, very SWEET-like, hell it coulda even been recorded by them, rather it was recorded in sweden with the stomping beat, and SWEET vocals and background vocals down to a ' T '..............' WE COME TO GIVE U THE ROAD', and.................'BUT NEVER THE CASE THE VANITY ROYALTY RUN, THE FESTIVAL TAKE U, TAKE U, AND U AND U , AND EVERYONE...............THE BALLOT BAND IS OUT TO......... and ...........' SO RAISE YOUR HAND EXPLOIT YOUR FAITH, DENY YOUR MR Q....a section on TEARS with a writeup can be seen from page 31....

MAD HATTERS

' THE HUMPHREY SONG'

COOL glam, dark sound, sounds like the GLITTER BAND meets MUD, if u like other jshop bands we have reviewed that fit this category like SISTERS 'KICK YOUR BOOTS OFF', and the BOSTON BOPPERS, then you'll love this, the horns here sound like SNAKES !!............'IF U HEAR A NIOSE IN THE NITE, MUST BE A HUMPHREY PATROL IN SITE, THEY'LL TAKE YOUR ( ? ), AND LEAVE U WITHOUT, WITHOUT, WITHOUT'.............(later).........' SO COME ON NOW LET ME HEAR U SHOUT, THERE's A HUMPHREY PATROL IN SITE'.........we'd love to find any more numbers by this band.......

DR. MARIGOLDS

' LADY WITH THE SNAKE TATTOO'

this sounds kinda like cheap glam at first listen and it is, it ain' t so hot, sounds a bit like SMOKIE,.....NODDY HOLDER vocal style......'I'VE SEEN SOME CRAZY THINGS IN MY LIFETIME, BUT ONLY ONE THING HAS REALLY BLOWN MY MIND, I DON' T EXPECT U ALL TO BELIEVE ME AT FIRST I THOUGHT I WAS GOING BLIND'.........good middle eastern sound added...........

PANTHERMAN

'PANTHERMAN'

!!!!.................this is SUPER ! sounding like ALICE COOPER meets MUD, with dark pre-punk overtones, this is actually one guy from holland FRANK KLUNHAAR doing all instruments, that is hard to believe when u hear this one.........drums roll, HEAVY bass, guitars snarl like, like panthers !.........'U CAN TAKE ME FOR A WALK IN THE MOONLIGHT, U CAN TAKE ME FOR A TRIP TO THE ZOO, U CAN TAKE ME FOR A TRIP ON THE SAFARI, ........( chorus )........'I AM YOUR PANTHERMAN, I AM YOUR PANTHERMAN, I'LL SHOW U MY POSE, I AM YOUR PANTHERMAN, I AM YOUR PANTHERMAN, I'LL SHOW U MY CLOTHES, I'M GONNA BITE U !!, GREAT synth work....and below your find reviews of a few more numbers by PANTHERMAN, and a viewer sent in his reviews as well, see our downloads page 2 to hear some of these b sides....

'MAGNUS UGGLA'

'FLENS ROCK'

von sweden , MAGNUS as wehave been told was not really a glam artist per se, he was a 70s singer who sang novelty tunes, or so says Sten at the Impossible Discographies.......we can say this GREAT tune is glam-pop..........the intro has some chatter, then a racing car, then comes a fast beat led by a piano, has that good-time sound, allthough the lyrics are in swedish so we don't knwo what they are saying, background singers go 'ROCK, ROCK, ROCK, ROCK', and they add the campy sound of ROCKY HORROR to this novelty tune......

LIGHT FANTASTIC

'DONT ' T LET GO'

kinda like SLADE imitators, a sloppy primitive stomp, not bad at all here, allthough the keyboard player tries, he coulda been better, maybe an alternate take exists somewhere ? ...........' WOKE UP THIS MORNING, BLACK WAS IN MY FACE, WHY CAN' T I DO IT, LYING UPON ME ( ? )......DON' T TURN AROUND AND SEE MY SHAME..................I LOVE U GIRL, DO NOT KNOW YOUR NAME, NO, NO, NO ( girl background singer- 'SHE SAYS' )...........( this one made the cut for BOOBS )

NEIL MERRYWEATHER

'SUNSHINE SUPERMAN'

PURPLE LIGHTS, A LAVA LAMP, LSD, it's all right here.....................thats right the old DONOVAN classic from ' 66 is here performed in a funky glam rock style circa ' 74, what a COOL tune, this is some super LSD rock ! this gang travles back in time to the 60s complete with sound effects, and comes up with a funky BOWIE sci - fi adventure, some SUPERB soulful singing from the background singers.........'SUNSHINE CAME SOFTLY THRU MY WINDOW TODAY, COULDA TRIPPED OUT EASY A BUT I'VE CHANGED MY WAYS, IT'LL TAKE TIME I KNOW IT BUT IN A WHILE, YOUR GONNA BE MINE, I KNOW IT WE'LL DO IT IN STYLE, CAUSE I'VE MADE MY MIND UP YOU'RE GOING TO BE MINE'.........

SLEAZE

this one were a pre-adverts band led by TV SMITH who began dating GAYE ADVERT in '74, their band who were from Torquay England played from '74 - '75 in clubs and schools, their intelligent brand of rock was not too welcome amongst the folks who just wanted boogie bands of the time, so on june 14th '75 they went to a studio to record this lp with 6 songs, the lp is extremely rare and only 50 copies were released at the time, ( not so rare as say a band named AXE who had 6 copies of their lp released in '69 ) there are 5 songs and the songs vary in length......'LISTEN DON'T THINK' is definitive pre new wave punk with strong guitar, bass, and kinetic drumming, 'WELL YOU LOOK JUST LIKE A SISTER, JUST A ( ? ), I'M SURE MY FATE IS SEALED....LAID ON THE LINE, SINCE I MADE YOU MINE'.....this song is over 6 minutes, definitely sounds intelligent compared to all the glam rock which flooded the airwaves in '75,..... DUM DE DUM.......this song is more straight forward rock with the glam beat....'DUM DE DUM, DEE DEE,....YOU DON'T ACTS LIKE YOU THINK, WELL DUM DE DAY, WELL IT LOOKS LIKE RAIN, EVERYDAY CONVERSATION, IT's A SHAME, SUCH A SHAME....this one is a little over 4 minutes...

Tracklisting ;

1 Showbiz Kid, 2 Dum De Dum, 3 Piss Artists, 4 Hollywood, 5 Listen Don't Think

Members ; TV SMITH - Vocals, ANDY BENNIE - Bass, BUZZ CHANTER, - Rhythm Guitar, STUART GUEST - Lead Guitar, DAVE HEATH - Drums.

SWEENEY TODD

'ROXY ROLLER'

NICK GILDER sang lead on this track, this was his old band, it's campy glam-pop similiar to BRETT SMILEY's vocals......' Moxy from the Roxy might turn some heads tonight Flashlight dream, peaches and cream delight Roxy Roller,...................Fab up job she's got bubble gum on her knees Down between the seats sometimes she'll toss you her key Roxy Roller,................Daddy the commissioner took far more than his share So Roxy join the syndicate knowing it wasn't fair Roxy Roller '...............many of u know that SUZI QUATRO covered this song in ' 77, and did a pretty GOOD version of it, the lp for those who are curious is a GREAT one of the mid 70s, very similiar to SPARKS, perhaps a bit like JET, but whereas JET favored glam-pop bombast mostly SWEENEY TODD's lp has more quiter refined moments.....reviews to come on the lp sometime soon on the 70s invasion.................:)

- SWEENEY TODD -

this 70s glam band from canada had 2 lps and some singles in ' 75, and ' 77, the singer was NICK GILDER who was replaced late in the band's career by one BRAYN ADAMS...., musically the music is along the lines of SPARKS, and JET, will give JET's release of '75 a ranking of one level better than the Sweeney Todd lps, still this is a strong glam lp, here is the track listing of the 1st lp which -

1 'BROADWAY BOOGIE', 2 ' JUICY LOOSE ', 3 ' SHORT DISTANCE, LONG JOURNEY', 4 ' THE KILT ' ( instrumental ) 5 'R-n-R STORY'

6 'SWEENEY TODD FOLDER ', 7 ' SEE WHAT WERE DOING NOW', 8 'DAYDREAMS', 9 'RUE DE CHANCE' 10 'LET's DO IT AGAIN',

this review of the Pantherman was sent in on late March, '04

the PANTHERMEN

Also known as producer Frank Klunhaar, Pantherman released 2 singles in 1974 and 75. Sounds like a silly pet project that was done for fun. The sleeve for the first one also called Pantherman has Frank in a leather cat suit, very biker meets s&m and a cat mask to top it off! looks like some crazy superhero. It starts off like a real rocker almost like Alice Cooper with a vocal sung in english but a heavy nordic accent is noticable. Some cool organ bits interplay with the heavy guitars and when the chorus comes in with the refrain "i am your pantherman i'll show you my paws i am your pantherman i'll show you my claws, i'm gonna bite you", its so over the top you know they had to be cracking up in the studio! Another crazy chapter in nederpop.

this PANTHERMEN review and the 9 obscure 70s glam tracks were sent in by ALEX of URSULA 1000 site, check out his mod video 'KINDA KINKY'

http://www.ursula1000.com/

someone else sent in this comment in late march '04 after seeing the above review -

Pantherman (not the Panthermen) was a studio project and never became a performing act although Polydor insisted to do so at the moment the third single was released. Originally this was a one man band idea inspired by the solo albums of Todd Rundgren. Frank Klunhaar played most -if not all- of the instruments on the records. The first single "Pantherman" was produced by Shell Schellekens who later had a USA nr 1 hit with "Twilight Zone" by Golden Earring. The person who sent in the review (Ursula1000?) captured the right idea about the act and the musical concept behind it. Kind regards,

here's our reviews of 2 b sides -

PANTHERMAN

'YOU ARE MY FRIEND' '74

cool glam guitars with synths, sounds influenced by ROXY music as u can imagine......'U ARE MY FRIEND, TILL THE END THERE WILL BE NO SORROW'......

'20th CENTURY MAN' '74

musically along the lines of ALICE COOPER, a bit of SWEET, but as these jshopsingles went sounds like a junior league version, which is still a great thing......'LIVE I CAN, AND U KNOW I CAN, I'M THE 20th CENTURY MAN....I AM A CENTURY MAN'......

would u like to hear some downloads by the PANTHERMEN ? see our downloads page accessible from the homepage, and you'll find a whole page on FRANK KLUNHAAR who was the PANTHERMAN....

more on the BIBLE CODE -

....elsewhere in the Bible Code we find out that in HEBREW Sapphire translates as Rips, in english look closely and u can see the similiarity in the spellings if you reverse 'Rips',....... RIPS was the name of the one who discovered the code afterall, and he was rather humble when Drosnin informed him that he had found his name in the bible.......the code about him came thru as 'RUSSIAN/HE WILL COMPUTE' in the code, and yes Rips was from russia.......looking further we find that there seems to be a hidden code within the bible itself, possibly a way to stop the nuclear holocaust, the words 'CODE KEY crosses OBELISKS'........an 'OBELISK' is a tall stone pillar with pointed ends found in ancient times with engraved writing on them, heiroglyphics and so on, some contain 'secret' information, one can imagine a similiarity to those pyramid things from the show 'LAND OF THE LOST' that the Sleastack used to guard :) ~ * ~

....in hebrew 'key' also means 'engraved'.......in the bible code we find that 'code on obelisk' crosses the 'VALLEY OF SIDDIM' ...which is very close to the dead sea.......this place was written about before the bible......'SIDDIM' in hebrew means 'LIME'.......in the valley of siddim there is a place covered with lime called the LIAN PENINSULA, which being 1300 ft below sea level stands AS THYE LOWEST PLACE ON THE EARTH.....indeed DROSNIN did travel out to this place which was deserted except for a few salt miners, even the guide who took him there did not understand why he wanted togo there since he said NO ONE GOES THERE.......Lisan is about 25,000 sq, ft......the place is mentioned in the bible in the book of Joshua 15:5, and 18:19.....after MOSES died a yopung warrior did lead a large group of people to the place.........( to be continued)

....TO SEE MORE INFO ON THEE BIBLE CODE, SEE LINK # 10 BELOW, THE GLITTER DISCOGRAPHY PAGE , also on gallery # 4, below *, and see our oldtimers gallery on our 'gateway 2' for more info as well....

well now that you've gotten past our first 2 sections of this page on obscure 70s glam rock, keep going to read about more lost treasures of the 70s *

CRUSHED BUTLER

this band was a real POWERHOUSE along the lines of the STOOGES, THIRD WORLD WAR, and SLADE, in fact they opened for SLADE and a number of others while they were together for 2 years from '69-'71, the band's music did not come out at the time, rather like so many it was released many years later onto cd.......the leader JESSE HECTOR went onto HELTER SKELTER for one single, then with the legendary HAMMERSMITH GEURILLAS , see below, also in the band were DARRYL READ, and ALAN BUTLER, BUTLER was the original bass player, during their time together a couple of other bassists came and went, however BUTLER came back later to play and was on what may be their last recording 'HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUT'........see the following page at the DARRYL READ site for more info - http://www.darrylread.com/butler.html

READ himself gave us a 'thumbs up' on our review here, he says you can now get a cd of demos called 'UNCRUSHED'.......

'FACTORY GRIME'

STOOGES-like bombast, KINKS influence, NOISY, LOUD, and HARD......definite pre-punk vocals are screamed.......'I JUST CAN'T BREATHE NO'....heavy bass crashing cymbals, and the drums throughout the song sound like bullets.........

'LOVE IS ALL AROUND'

i suppose this is CRUSHED BUTLER's statement of love and flower power, but the most heavy one u can imagine about that subject........again the attack has the primitive sound, with only 3 guys; guitar, bass, and drums, this band made a hell of a lot of niose.....'IN THE DARK OF THE NIGHT WITH THE WORLD OUTTA SITE, I CAN SEE THE REFELCTION ON U', and 'LOVE IS ALL AROUND ME AROUND ME, I'M SO GLAD U FOUND ME, NEVER FELT THIS WAY BEFORE'.......

'HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUT'

prehistoric SLADE rock sound, drums STOMP, pre-punk like no other, 'SHE WAS ONLY 17, SHE WAS HIGH SO CLEAN, THE ONLY THING SHE WANTED WAS A YELLOW BAND IN HER HAIR, ........WELL HER DAD SHE WAS RICH, AND HER MOM SHE WAS POOR,..........JUST A HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUT, JUST A HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUT,JUST A HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUT,JUST A HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUT, BUT YOUR MY BABY NOW' !!

'MY SON is ALIVE'

this one by CRUSHED BUTLER comes on like a declaration of pure niose, STOOGES meets SLADE with BOOMING BASS, ' MY SON IS ALIVE, MY SON IS ALIVE, SO COME ON BABY GIVE ME SOME MORE', and 'OH LORD YOU WERE BY MY SIDE'......the drums pound away and pound, and pound !!

HAMMERSMITH GORILLAS

'YOU REALLY GOT ME'/LEAVIN ONE '74

....JESSE HECTOR led this band who had a cult following in the 70s,this cover of the KINKS classic is updated to the sound of '74, more hard rock than say glam, but a strong version indeed of this rocker, the b side is rather good also featuring strong bass and drums, and a confident outlook :) ............the name HAMMERSMITH GORILLAS was taken from the very last song on THIRD WORLD WAR's 2nd lp which was spelled 'HAMMERSMITH GEURILLAS', we printed out the full lyrics for that song, at the bottom of page 4

HELTER SKELTER

'I NEED YOU/GOODBYE BABY '

JESSE HECTOR and co released this single sometime before the H GORILLAS became a band, this incarnation had only one single 'I NEED YOU'is early 70's hard rock played well and defiant, whereas the b side 'GOODBYE BABY' is a SUPER ROCK # where all the notes hit right on target, and it's much better than the single, sometimes this happened with bands that the b side was better than the single in those days....'GOODBYE BABY GOODBYE, I HAD ENOUGH OF ALL YOUR LIES, YOUR WICKED WAY RIGHT THRU YOUR THIGHS'......, EXCELLENT SONG, shows JESSE HECTOR was an original garage rocker, who indeed wrote many songs that influenced punk rock....

see this link for picture sleeves and photos of HECTOR and friends....

http://www.mohairsweets.mb.ca/Pages/sleeves.html

SARA J a gal with some good taste in music has a site where she plays Hector's music and lots of other related bands like SLADE, check out her site at this link ~

http://www.gorillagotme.com/main.htm

ROTOMAGUS 'Fightin’ Cock' !

from '71 and from france sung in english , this song is outta site, killer heavy pre-punk sound, some parts even sound like hardcore of the early 80s, a real brutal rock sound as maybe they saw THIRD WORLD WAR perform and wanted to sound something like them, you can hear this GREAT track at the Pure Pop Blog where he compares them to the STOOGES and MOTORHEAD....more info to come.... img

lyrics to JOBRIATH's

'Rock Of Ages'......'73

So what if a-wop-bop-a loo-bam boom didn't rhyme Billy Haley and the Comets drove me to the prom in time

A Little Richard goes a long long way More than twenty long years to this day

Rock of ages roll away rock away roll away

We were dancin' in the streets and shapin' our lives in school When we were simply thirteen,

GOD SAVED THE QUEEN

in Liverpool

A mop top mersey goes a long long way More than ten long years to this day Rock of ages roll away rock away roll away

Three plays for a quarter is ancient history now But the Stones roll away and rock that juke box till

Satisfaction goes a long long way Much more than five long years to this day Rock of ages roll away rock away roll away

A Little Richard goes a long long way More than twenty long years to this day Rock of ages roll away rock away roll away

...lyrics to GODSPELL's

'GOD SAVE THE PEOPLE' ' 73

When wilt thou save the people? Oh God of mercy, when? Not kings and lords, but nations, Not thrones and crowns, but men! Flow'rs of thy heart, o God, are they; Let them not pass, like weeds, away, Their heritage a sunless day. God save the people.

Shall crime bring crime forever, Strength aiding still the strong? Is it thy will, o Father, That men shall toil for wrong? "No", say thy mountains; "No", say thy skies; Man's clouded sun shall brightly rise, And songs be heard instead of sighs. God save the people.

When wilt thou save the people? Oh God of mercy when? The people, Lord, the people, Not thrones and crowns, but men! God save the people, for thine they are, Thy children as thy angels fair.

God save the people from despair. God save the people. Oh God save the people! God save the people! Oh God save the people! God save the people. Oh God save the people! God save the people! Oh God save the people!

When wilt thou save the people? O God of mercy when? The people, Lord, the people, Not thrones and crowns, but men! God save the people, save us, For thine they are, for thine they are. Thy children as thy angels fair:

O, God save the people, Save the people, God save the people, From despair. God save the people!

God save the people, O, God save the people, God save the people, O, God save the people, God save the people, God save the people, God save the people.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:14

All glories to KRSNA, JESUS, and PRABHUPADA.....

.... onto the reviews of more obscure 70's glam rock, the following below was added sept '02, and has been revised since then with some additions all the way to spring of 2011 and counting, ........really,

early JOOK songs that were here were moved to our 2nd JOOK section on page 5....

Even More 70s Kitsch/trash....

VULCAN

'MUCH too YOUNG' ' 74

YEAH ! EXCELLENT glam rocker in the hard rock style of SLADE .....actually it begins as a BARRY BLUE type pop #, then begins to alternate to SLADE style with the singer assuming a strong personality within the song,......... 'BABY YOUR SO SWEET, HARD TO BEAT, BUT YOUR MUCH TOO YOUNG'.......the song is about an older musician telling a younger girl she is 'much too young' for his scene....the b side 'ACTION MAN' is very good, actually sounds like a demo left over from perhaps a 60's incarnation, but actually it's early 70's rock with SANTANA-like percussion and a good rhythm section....the a side was written by E. CHILDREN of the MORNING

'HEY AMERICA, AMERICA'.......COOL glam song in the junk shop genre here from '73 here, SHEL SHAPIRO was name is really Norman David Shapiro was the man behind this band, it was his creation, this far out number is built around a HUGE metallic handclap and a STRONG beat, with lyrics such as 'HEY AMERICA, AMERICA YOUR FUCKING UP' ! :)

RICKI WILDE

'CASSETTE BLUES' '74

'we got the peace and the peace and cassette blues' ! woo ooo or maybe close to this is what RICKI says here,.....RICKI is known as the son of MARTY WILDE, together they released possibly the 70's greatest novelty glam song of all time 'THE TEEN WAVE'...here he sings an acoustic song that no one could deny is a real gem, this cheerful happy song would go great on one of those 70's preservation comps, if only they knew.....with such lyrics as 'me and Kim were sitting in a tree', and 'dad said if he never played guitar he never would have got, the peace and peace and cassette blues'....

on 'DO IT AGAIN A LITTLE BIT SLOWER'

here he sings another very endearing pop # with what has to be his sister KIM WILDE on background vocals,'kiss me, I love the way that you kiss me, hold me, yeeeaaaaa....'...such innocent 70's pop, that makes for a great single in the WILDE family collection ! :) ~~ ^ * ! *...the b side to this song 'LOVE AROUND' is not bad, reminds us a lot of his song 'ROUND AND ROUND'......on 'BAD BOY' he sings another pop # where he states he's MUCH TOO YOUNG to be married, and that must be MARTY in the background....see page 4 for more info...one day some 70's purists must put ricki and marty's singles and b sides of the 70's onto a cd, or a vinyl record preferbably :).......'MRS MALINSKI' the rare b side by Ricki Wilde has now been reviewed atop page 4 in our RICKI WILDE section.........

THE HOOD

' YOU NEVER CAN TELL ' ' 73

An adverb is a word... {That's all it is, and there's a lot of 'em!} That modifies a verb... {Sometimes a verb! Sometimes...} It modifies an adjective, Or else another adverb. And so you see that it's positively, very, very, necessary.

Lolly Lolly Lolly, get your adverbs here! Father, son and Lolly selling adverbs here! Got a lot of adverbs and we make it clear, So come to Lolly!

{Hello, folks. This is Lolly Senior, saying we have every adverb in the book, so come on down and look!} {Hello, folks. Lolly Junior here. Suppose your house needs painting. How are you going to paint it? That's where the adverb comes in. We can also give you a special intensifier so you can paint it very neatly or rather sloppily.}

{Hi. Suppose you're going nut-gathering. Your buddy wants to know where and when. Use an adverb and tell him.)

Get your adverb...

Use it with an adjective, it says much more. Anything described can be described some more. Anything you'd ever need is in the store, And so you choose very carefully Every word you use.

Use it with a verb it tells us how you did. Where it happened, where you're going, where you've been. Use it with another adverb at the end, and even more... How, where, or when, condition or reason... These questions are answered When you use an adverb...

{Come and get it!}

Lolly Lolly Lolly, get your adverbs here! Quickly quickly quickly, get your adverbs here! Slowly surely really, learn your adverbs here! You're going need 'em If you read 'em, If you write or talk or think about it.

Lolly...

}} {If it's an adverb we have it at Lolly's! }} Bring along your old adjectives too, like slow, soft and sure. }} We'll fit them out with our "l-y" attachment, }} And make perfectly good adverbs out of them!}

Get your adverbs here! }} {Lots of good tricks at Lolly's, so come on down!} Lolly, Lolly, Lolly! }} {Adverbs deal with manner, place, time...} Lolly, Lolly, Lolly! }} {Condition, reason...} Father Son and Lolly! }} {Comparison, contrast...}

Lolly, Lolly, Lolly! }} {Enrich your language with adverbs!} Lolly, Lolly, Lolly! {Besides, they're absolutely free!} Lolly, Lolly, Lolly! }} {At your service!} Indubitably!

SHADES

'BILLY'/'SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME' ' 74

......got a friend named Billy ? get this song, as it will sure raise laughter.... , a drum beat begins then a messenger with a bullhorn shouts 'BILLY NEVER HAD A CHANCE' and 'A CHILD BORN IN THE GHETTO IS A CHILD WITHOUT A FUTURE'with a loony guitar, and horns playing along to a chorus of glam girls singing

'RUN BILLY RUN, CATCH HIM IF U CAN, BILLY ROBBED A BANK AND KILLED A MAN'.... TRUE CAMP appeal of '74 can be heard here, comparable to ROCKY HORROR....the b side does not have the guy, the girls sing a harmonous # with nice vocals, sounds like a cover.......this was a girl band but were not sure if they are the same ones on the RAK label....and on another single 'SILHOUETTES' '75, the band performs a campy cover, emphasis on vocals......as in 'BILLY' the girls accompany the male singer.....' TOOK A WALK PAST YOUR HOUSE LATE LAST NIGHT, 2 SILHOUETTES ON A SHADE'..........

BLACKFOOT SUE

'STANDING in the ROAD'/'CELESTIAL PLAIN'' 72

VERY GOOD offbeat song from this uk band who had a good size following, they had a few singles which can be seen on borderline books, and this site here - ..the song is built around a guitar riff, accompanied with good vocals, more rock than glam indeed, but definetly in the genre, has an interesting stop/start part towards the end, the b side 'CELESTIAL PLAIN' is just as good as the single, strong song, a bit slower with heavy drums rounding out the sound, we made a BLACKFOOT SUE page in dec '04 with reviews of many more songs, see our gateway 1 located at the bottom of this page........see more on this sight here -

LIEUTENANT PIGEON

'MOLDY OLD DOUGH' / 'THE VILLIAN'

THE NUMBER #1 HIT IN ENGLAND in '72.....this song can only be dewscribed by us as a novelty/colonial song with an electric toy piano playing all the way thru, brings about a sense of DEJA VU when first heard, with an old court jester type vocal take singing the only lyrics ' moldy old dough'....this could be suggested as kids music also...

'VILLIAN' the b side has an odd novelty pop sound as well with handclaps and the electric piano, no vocals here, this song can be described in literal terms as when a scientist takes 2 magnets and split the cold energy of them while clapping them together very loudly in front of a microphone....you can hear downloads at the site -

see our other section on this band on page 15....

HOUND DOG ' 73

' R-n-R SHOW '

fast good time rock sound, strong bass,.......'GOING ON TO ( ? ) DOING WHAT THEY LIKE, LIKE TO GO, TO THE R-n-R SHOW, LADY PASSED ME BY, THEN SHE CALLED MY NAME ( STONES-like guitar solo ).....' OH HOW SHE BREATHES ME, OH HOW SHE TEASE ME, SHE's MY GIRL, JUST A GIRL, OH YEA'.......

COLD FLY

'CATERPILLAR' ' 73

handclaps, elec guitar, T.REX pop influence, campy vocals....'OH CATERPILLAR, YOUR MY CATERPILLAR, OH I THINK IT's STRANGE SOMETIMES I THINK IT's GONNA CHANGE I SAY THAT YOUR'.......and.......'OH QUINTESSANT EYES SEEM TO SEE THE BLUEST SKIES.....interlude with strings, violin......

FIREBIRD

'2 WHEELS' ' 74..........REMEMBER that song called 'beach baby' by the FIRST CLASS, a '74 glitter-pop # done BEACH BOYS style ? well this band attempts that style, with a GOOD pop # about riding around in your car looking for girls, although it's not nearly as good as that classic................ ' i'll tell u something that is outta site, i've got a groovy little motorbike, doo waa, doo waa, so grab your sneakers an an old t-shirt, and we'll go wheeling around tonight.....2 wheels, gonna make it faster tonight'......nice background vocals.......we had been after it for a long time since it was included in KEN BARNES glitter discography, ( see links below )...the b side 'SIDETRACKING' is a good one too, a slow pop number with some good vocals, as the singer sings 'words they don't come easy'.........

PANDORA

once upon a time from cleveland there was a hard rock band called GRANICUS, who had one lp, their drummer Joe Battaglia recorded some music with a N.Y. CITY band who recorded in ohio, called PANDORA, they had 2 RARE singles which came out on flexi discs in a magazine, the lp and demos they recorded in the summer of '74,

and were kept on tape for many years until '97 when he decided to release them on cd cause they are really good N.Y. DOLLS, STOOGES, SILVERHEAD, -type 70's glam trash..... allthough Battaglia could not even remember the members names of PANDORA, neither could anyone else....SEE OUR REVIEWS IN FULL NOW ON PAGE 23.....

EXCERT TAKEN FROM FACTORY FARMING.com

Inevitably, intensive animal agriculture depletes valuable natural resources. Instead of being eaten by people, the vast majority of grain harvested in the U.S. is fed to farm animals. This wasteful and inefficient practice has forced agribusiness to exploit vast stretches of land. Forests, wetlands, and other natural ecosystems and wildlife habitats have been decimated and turned into crop and grazing land. Scarce fossil fuels, groundwater, and topsoil resources which took millenium to develop are now disappearing.

Meanwhile, the quantity of waste produced by farm animals in the U.S. is more than 130 times greater than that produced by humans. Agricultural runoff has killed millions of fish, and is the main reason why 60% of America's rivers and streams are "impaired". In states with concentrated animal agriculture, the waterways have become rife with pfiesteria bacteria. In addition to killing fish, pfiesteria causes open sores, nausea, memory loss, fatigue and disorientation in humans. Even groundwater, which takes thousands of years to restore, is being contaminated. For example, the aquifer under the San Bernadino Dairy Preserve in southern California contains more nitrates and other pollutants than water coming from sewage treatment plants.

the KINKS 'CELLULIOD HEROES' '72

Everybody's a dreamer and everybody's a star, And everybody's in movies, it doesn't matter who you are. There are stars in every city, In every house and on every street, And if you walk down Hollywood Boulevard Their names are written in concrete!

Don't step on Greta Garbo as you walk down the Boulevard, She looks so weak and fragile that's why she tried to be so hard But they turned her into a princess And they sat her on a throne, But she turned her back on stardom, Because she wanted to be alone.

You can see all the stars as you walk down Hollywood Boulevard, Some that you recognise, some that you've hardly even heard of, People who worked and suffered and struggled for fame, Some who succeeded and some who suffered in vain. Rudolph Valentino, looks very much alive, And he looks up ladies' dresses as they sadly pass him by.

Avoid stepping on Bela Lugosi 'Cos he's liable to turn and bite, But stand close by Bette Davis Because hers was such a lonely life. If you covered him with garbage, George Sanders would still have style, And if you stamped on Mickey Rooney He would still turn round and smile, But please don't tread on dearest Marilyn 'Cos she's not very tough, She should have been made of iron or steel, But she was only made of flesh and blood.

You can see all the stars as you walk down Hollywood Boulevard, Some that you recognise, some that you've hardly even heard of. People who worked and suffered and struggled for fame, Some who succeeded and some who suffered in vain.

Everybody's a dreamer and everybody's a star And everybody's in show biz, it doesn't matter who you are.

And those who are successful, Be always on your guard, Success walks hand in hand with failure Along Hollywood Boulevard.

I wish my life was a non-stop Hollywood movie show, A fantasy world of celluloid villains and heroes, Because celluloid heroes never feel any pain And celluloid heroes never really die.

You can see all the stars as you walk along Hollywood Boulevard, Some that you recognise, some that you've hardly even heard of, People who worked and suffered and struggled for fame, Some who succeeded and some who suffered in vain.

Oh celluloid heroes never feel any pain Oh celluloid heroes never really die.

I wish my life was a non-stop Hollywood movie show, A fantasy world of celluloid villains and heroes, Because celluloid heroes never feel any pain And celluloid heroes never really die.

...on our homepage we mention comedian Phil Hendrie towards the bottom, be sure to check out some great female comedians such as MARY MACK and MARIA BAMFORD...

Young King Arthur was ambushed and imprisoned by the monarch of a neighbouring kingdom. The monarch could have killed him, but was moved by Arthur's youth and ideals. So the monarch offered him freedom, as long as he could answer a very difficult question. Arthur would have a year to figure out the answer and if, after a year, he still had no answer, he would be put to death.

The question was: What do women really want?

Such a question would perplex even the most knowledgeable man and, to young Arthur, it seemed an impossible query. But, since it was better than death, he accepted the monarch's proposition to have an answer by year's end. He returned to his kingdom and began to poll everybody: the princess, the priests, the prostitutes, the wise men, the court jester. He spoke with everyone, but no one could give him a satisfactory answer. Many people advised him to consult an old witch. Only she would know the answer.

The price would be high, however, as the witch was famous throughout the kingdom for the exorbitant prices she charged. The last day of the year arrived and Arthur had no alternative but to talk to the witch. She agreed to answer his question, but he'd have to accept her price first: she wanted to marry Gawain, the most noble of the Knights of the Round Table and Arthur's closest friend!

Young Arthur was horrified as the witch was hunchbacked and hideous, had only one tooth, smelled like sewage, made obscene noises ... etc. He had never encountered such a repugnant creature and he refused to force his friend to marry her and endure such a burden.

Gawain, upon learning of the proposal, spoke with Arthur. He told him that no sacrifice was too high compared to Arthur's life and the preservation of the Round Table. Hence, their wedding was proclaimed, and the witch answered Arthur's question thusly: What a woman really wants is to be in charge of her own life.

Everyone instantly knew that the witch had uttered a great truth and that Arthur's life would be spared. And it was so. The neighbouring monarch granted Arthur total freedom and Gawain

and the witch were to be married. Arthur was torn between relief and anguish. Gawain was proper as always, gentle and courteous. The old witch put her worst manners on display during the wedding ceremony and made everyone very uncomfortable. The honeymoon hour approached. Gawain, steeling himself for a horrific experience, entered the bedroom. But what a sight awaited him! The most beautiful woman he'd ever seen lay before him! The astounded Gawain asked what had happened. The beauty replied that since he had been so kind to her when she'd appeared as a witch, she would henceforth be her horrible, deformed self only half the time, and the other half she would be her beautiful maiden self. Which would he want her to be during the day and which during the night?

What a cruel question!

Gawain pondered his predicament: during the day, a beautiful woman to show off to his friends but, at night in the privacy of his home, a hideous witch? Or vice-a-versa? What would you do? What Gawain chose follows below but don't read it until you've decided which choice you think he should have made.

Noble Gawain replied that he would let her choose for herself. Upon hearing this, the witch announced that she would be beautiful all the time because he had respected her enough to let her be in charge of her own life.

What is the moral of this story? The moral is this:

If a woman doesn't get her own way, she's gonna get damned ugly about it!.

OUR OWN THOUGHTS ;

....in this life men must let women choose first, for we are indebted to them, and we must realize that we are equal with one another; spiritually, mentally, and so on, so men are physically stronger, and women bear children so we must remember never to take advantage of them.....AND LET THEM BE IN CONTROL OF THEIR OWN LIVES

men must place a woman's happiness before their own, because if they're happy, then were happy :)
