The idea came to me to write this story a couple of Christmases ago, complete with a whole AH/AU where Bella and Emmett are second cousins in a vast clan of McCartys (who are mostly made up of cousins with the names of the various vampire in SM's books, taken from her Illustrated Guide to the universe... where believable anyway). I even made up a family tree for the McCartys, which can be found here
There are some differences from canon (apart from the obvious). The Denalis are related to the Cullens—Carmen is Carlisle's sister (and therefore blond rather than brunette), and Tanya, Kate, and Irina are her and Eleazar's daughters. Jasper and Rosalie are both Hales and twins. Edward and Alice are both Cullens, but not twins. Edward is Esme's son from a previous marriage (to Edward Masen sr, who was killed in an accident when Edward was a baby), she married Carlisle when Edward and Alice were two, and Carlisle adopted Edward. Alice is Carlisle's daughter from a previous relationship in med school, he parted amicably from her mother (Phyllis Brandon) when Alice was six months because Phyllis realized full time motherhood was not for her. She still remains in contact, so Esme did not adopt Alice. Together, Carlisle and Esme have a daughter, Elizabeth (just so I could include an Elizabeth since I pretty much did away with Elizabeth Masen). Renesmee was born on the same day she was in canon, but since its AH, Bella was therefore pregnant during the last six months of high school (which is another story). Harry Clearwater died about two years before he did in the books, and Charlie and Sue married the summer before this story.
