Questioning Reliefby Allison K. East  He didn’t question that knot in his stomach. Not at first. It was one of his team that had put herself in mortal danger by staying with Cassandra against orders when there was every indication that she was about to go nuclear. He had every right to be equal parts worried and annoyed. When nothing had happened, his stomach clenched with dread. It was only when she responded to his call that he could breathe a sigh of relief. The self-questioning didn’t begin until later that night, when he was alone in his quarters. Only then did he allow himself to wonder at why he was so concerned at that moment. Why his heart had practically stopped until he heard her voice. Why he was not furious with her for disobeying a direct order when he had every right to be. He was beginning to care for her a lot deeper than he was supposed to. Logically he knew that he should have her reassigned before anything happened. The regulations stated that. But SG-1 was a family, and he was loath to break them up now. They worked well together; changing the team dynamics now would hardly benefit them. Besides, it wasn’t as though Carter was even aware of his feelings. Hell, he wasn’t exactly aware of them. Carter wouldn’t have an inkling that there was anything beyond the working relationship they already had. How hard would it be to keep things as they were?   Like it? Tell the author what you think!
