Caustic Euphemisms

Do Not Call Me Hero

Do not call me hero,

Just because of deeds.

Do not call me martyr,

For I have yet to bleed.

Do not ask my story,

It isn't yours to tell.

Do not ask for glory,

It's found where comrades fell.

Broken souls will haunt me in the quiet of the night,

Vestiges of damning souls will guard against the light.

Do not call me hero for their deaths will haunt me still,

It was faith in true divinity that led me to the kill.

Do not ask for reverence,

For I know that you lied.

Do not ask for recompense

For you will be denied.

Do not call me brother,

I walk this world alone.

Do not call me holy,

For the sins that gods condone.

Broken souls will haunt me in the quiet of the night,

Vestiges of damning souls will guard against the light.

Do not call me hero for its evil that you raise,

Angels who are faithless are not worthy of praise.

You have called me hero,

Even though I would not hear.

You have called me legend,

Even when I ran in fear.

You have put your faith in me,

And I betrayed your trust.

If I can earn your love again,

I will do exactly what I must.

No broken souls will haunt me in the quiet of this night,

No darkness all consuming will hinder morning's light.

You have called me hero, though I could have proved you wrong.

You put your faith inside of me, where faith did not belong.

New hope burns within me like an eternal flame,

Just because you trusted me and put "hero" by my name.

You've given faith to faithless, given me new life.

I dedicate my life to you, and to ending strife.
