Works of Fictional Recall

Shoreless Sea

Don’t look at me like I don’t love you,

Your mistrust is a conscious sin.

You stare at me like I see through you,

But from here I don’t know where to begin.

You say your piece and it haunts my dreams,

And I can’t think of words to say.

You cry sometimes and it makes me scream,

I don’t know what else I can do today.

But standing here, all alone,

Looking out over shoreless sea.

I can sing to you the words I know,

And tell you what they mean to me.

You stare at me from a yellowed page,

Ten years since we said goodbye.

I remember you with a mellowed rage,

Funny how with tears we fly.

I’d sing to you if I remembered how,

But the lyrics don’t make any sense.

They all got lost in a sea of Now,

And a multitude of unpaid rents.

But standing there, all alone,

I looked out over shoreless sea.

I could sing to you the words I knew,

And tell you what you meant to me.
