During the war known as the Great Conflict, the greatest wizards and sorcerers came together in Coven to decide the outcome of the war. For thousands of years, confrontation was resolved this way. But this was no ordinary war. The Goddess of Good, Anisalynn; and the God of Evil, Xanitar suddenly disappeared from the Heavens, and the Coven was stripped of control, and the magics that were once controlled by a select few ran rampant throughout the land. Many died, many disappeared, but for every disappearance there was an appearance of a replacement. Nobody knew from whence these came, and many were burned for witchcraft. It was a select few that survived, and gradually got used to life in Corivaan, outsiders always, but very much a part of day to day life. At the end of the Great Conflict, the mightiest of the dragons, Talizar, and her mate, Tyran, seized control of the majority of the realm. Only one bastion remained uncontrolled by their tyranny; the human city of Tir Locke in the southern portion of Corivaan held strong in the last battle between the dragons, their minions and the four races: Elves, Humans, Dwarves, and Faeries. When the war ended, an uneasy peace was agreed upon by the four races and the dragons, and many believed their troubles to be over. But the dragons still controlled the majority of Corivaan. And the Legion of Anisalynn (called at the end of the war the Legion of Locke) that was formed at the onset of the Great Conflict by the founder of Tir Locke, Reghet Locke, became the protector of the free lands, and the one hope that remained to overthrow the dragons. For though peace reigned supreme in the hearts and minds of the citizenry, the dragons plotted the destruction of the Legion, just as the Legion plotted the destruction of the dragons.
