The delicious scent of the Pineapple orange in bloom is enough to make you lie under the glorious tree all afternoon long, warmed by the spots of sunlight that leak through the leaves, and dreaming of exotic tropical landscapes, because, after all, it originated in Florida rather than a desertish climate like so many other orange varieties.
Along with the Hamlin, Marrs, and Diller varieties, the Pineapple is stuck under the vague grouping of oranges called Arizona Sweets when grown in that state. We must return their ethnical identities! Each variety is diverse and special and does not deserve to thrown under the decidedly gustatory label "Arizona Sweet." Arrrgggh. It makes my blood boil.

Facts immediately after the orange type have been unmercifully ripped from Richard Ray and Lance Walheim's Citrus: How to Select, Grow and Enjoy from Horticultural Publishing Co., Inc. Facts used in the ranting paragraphs after the basic description are all true and from Citrus: How to Select, Grow and Enjoy, except for those obvious bits that are the Erin-madness.
