Billy goes to Leon’s for dinner
A Billy/Elijah Chat

Billy: *I've a feeling that tonight is going to be one of those nights where I'm just too lazy to do any cooking. Not that much concrete cooking happens in my kitchen anyway. But tonight, especially, I think that slapping together a couple sandwiches for Dom and me is as far as my cooking flair will extend. So it's off to the Riven Deli for some roast beef and maybe a bit of cheese, depending on what catches my fancy. After all, it's been weeks since I met that bloke Leon who runs the place, and I did tell him I'd stop by. I push open the door, greeted by the tinkle of the bell, and walk over to the counter, surveying the selection.*

Elijah/Leon: *Bored, bored, bored... and now I'll probably be even more bored to death by the ramblings of whoever just walked in the door. moseying up to the counter, I stop when I see your face, grinning at you as if you've just made my day* Billy! Hey. *Looking down and flicking a piece of provolone off my apron* Thought maybe you'd heard something bad about my salami. *laughing*

Billy: *I laugh at your remark, feeling a slight tug of guilt.* No, nothing like that. I'm sorry I haven't stopped by. *I grin at you, glad that I've stopped in now for more than just dinner reasons.* How've you been?

Elijah/Leon: Uhm... *Trying to think of the best way to describe how I've been* ...bored. *Smiling* It's nice to see a new face. Well, your face isn't that new. But it's... nice to see it. *Knowing I must sound like a complete idiot, figuring loneliness does that to a person, I quickly change the subject* How about you? How's teaching going?

Billy: Great, great, but you know, kids and Christmas... it's not the most productive time of year. They've been counting down for awhile now. But I suppose it's that way for more than just children. *I smile, shrugging.* What are your plans for the holidays?

Elijah/Leon: Exactly. Can't blame them. *My smile fading a bit as I think about being alone for the holidays* No plans really. Not going home to see my family or anything. I'll just... be here to sell people some food if they don't want to cook Christmas dinner. *Shrugging* Er, speaking of food... did you want me to get you anything?

Billy: *I nod, remembering that since you're new in town, you probably wouldn't have family around to spend Christmas with.* Ah, yes, I'll take about a pound of roast beef and... *I glance at the cheeses briefly.* ...some of that smoked cheddar. *I pause, letting you start my order.* Seems there are a great many of us in Lauderville who are going to be without family this Christmas. It's a shame.

Elijah/Leon: *Beginning to slice the roast beef, still listening to you* Yeah. You'd think there would be some kind of get-together for the ones left behind. *Chuckles* But... it's not like I'd be such great company. *Dropping the meat on the scale, seeing that it's a little under a pound* I'll be fine just laying around, listening to my new order of CDs that should come in the mail soon. *Grins, laughing a little* I must be the only person in town to be so excited about getting my mail.

Billy: *I raise an eyebrow and suppress a grin. Excited about mail? Oh, you have no idea. Or perhaps... no. But I'll test it anyway, because I'm at the point where I'll suspect just about anyone.* You never know. Christmas is magical and full of unexpected surprises... maybe you'll get more exciting mail than you expect.

Elijah/Leon: You think? *Wrapping the roast beef, no idea of what you might be talking about, but your words making me wonder if I'll hear from any friends at home -- the ones who know exactly where I am, including my mom and sis* But you're right. I am looking forward to more than CDs. *Grinning and walking over to sit the roast beef on the counter* So, what about you? Waiting for some exciting mail? Oh, and did you say smoky cheddar?

Billy: *I stare at you intently, perhaps too intently, before snapping myself out of it and giving a quick nod.* Aye, about half of that. *I gesture to the chunk in the case. I scratch my head, hoping I haven't been too obvious. But... oh, I don't know what to think, other than I just now noticed you have amazing blue eyes. Did MS say he had blue eyes? I can't remember.* Well, I have hopes for a few deliveries...

Elijah/Leon: *Yeah, with the way he was just staring at me, he definitely thinks I'm weird now -- the weird guy who owns a deli and has no friends* Oh.... right. *Retrieving the cheese, putting it on the slicer* A few deliveries? So... like gifts or letters? *Remembering that I need to go by the post office still to mail Christmas cards home* I'm looking forward to some mail too, but I'll probably get there and you'll have a letter sitting there while I'll only have bills and adverts. *Shrugging* Pretty sure of that. It's enough to depress a guy. *Thinking of my agent's annoying letters, telling me of movies I should be doing, rather than.... slicing cheese* It's like I only exist to one person by mail... well, two... them and Amazon.com. *Laughing softly*

Billy: *Well, whoever that one person is, they must be someone you're fairly close to... family? Or...* Still, any personal mail is better than the usual. Up until this fall, I never got personal mail either... *I laugh.* You never know who truly cares until you see your Christmas cards. Who knows? Maybe you'll get more than you think.

Elijah/Leon: *Finishes slicing the cheese, then wraps it* You think? *Walking over to the counter and putting your items in a bag* If I do get something special in the mail, Billy... I'll be sure to think of you. *Smiles, handing you the bag, wondering if I should add you to my Christmas list*

Billy: *I beam and blush a bit before taking the bag with a nod and reaching for my wallet. And I'm sure I'll be thinking of you, too, next time Dom brings the mail home.* How much do I owe you?

Elijah/Leon: *Smiling at the curious expression on your face -- cute too* Owe me? Bblinking* Oh! What did you have again? *shaking my head* No, I remember. *Quickly turning to the cash register ringing up the sale* That's $6.49. *Suddenly realising what you just said about Dom -- bringing the mail home, but thinking I shouldn't pry* Well, you're lucky. You always get your mail then. Early too, I bet.

Billy: *I pull out a few bills and count out the change, holding it out to you.* If he doesn't forget entirely that he has to bring mail to me, as well. *I smile.* No, he's always prompt. Knows I'd give him hell if he didn't bring my post on time. *I think that's one thing that Dom will never forget, as long as he's staying with me.*

Elijah/Leon: *Taking the money* Well, good. *Gathering your change from the drawer, handing it to you* Wouldn't want you to miss any of your special mail. *Grins, hoping you'll like a Snoopy Christmas card, seeing that they're the only cards I have because the local store has a crap selection of Christmas cards*

Billy: *Grinning, I pick up the bag off the counter.* I'll get on Dom's case, make sure he's got everyone's mail on time for Christmas. *I wink and back away from the counter, sorry to go, but I've got to get dinner ready before Dom gets home. Besides, I'm not sure I can keep the dopey grin off my face any longer, and I don't want to give myself away. I'm going to keep my secret knowledge to myself until Christmas Eve.* Thanks Leon, see you around.
