The animated film "The Last Unicorn" was shown to me recently by my two good friends Emily and Darilyn. At first, I was thinking, "Okay, 1982 grainy animation, an annyoing horse with a horn and a fairly good soundtrack, so what?" But I was so incredibly wrong. For me, Schmendrick makes the movie.
Maybe he is a bearer, maybe he is a dwelling, maybe he is a messenger, but I would know him even if I was blind. (You'll have to see the movie to get this joke.) The guy is the ultimate geek-who-gets-the-girl (or a girl, and Molly isn't too bad. She's less annoying than the Unicorn anyway, and her singing voice couldn't be worse than hers). A good guy through and through and incredibly pure of heart even though he starts out with the bad guys.
In other news, the live action version of The Last Unicorn that is set to be released in 2004 has finally cast Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Schmendrick. A lot of people are bent out of shape about it, but I think he'll be awesome. Maybe I'm just easily pleased...
