Werner Enterprises Obtains C-TPAT/FAST and PIP Border Crossing Certifications, Furthering Commitment to International Growth and Security
OMAHA, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 15, 2003--Werner Enterprises, Inc. (Nasdaq:WERN), one of the nation's largest truckload transportation companies, announced today that it has become a certified member in the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) and Partners in Protection (PIP) programs. The C-TPAT and PIP programs are part of the Free and Secure Trade (FAST) initiative jointly developed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection and the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency. As a member, Werner agrees to work with the governmental agencies to ensure safer borders to reduce the threat of terrorism within North America. By participating in these programs, Werner Enterprises' FAST/C-TPAT/PIP approved customers will benefit from improved border crossing times and on-going process improvements, resulting in increased efficiencies in the supply chain. The FAST program will allow importers on the U.S./Canada border to obtain expedited release for qualifying commercial shipments.
