Arundale, Merrick Joshua. Private, Co. C. The son of Joshua and Susanna (-) Arundale, he was born at Trenton, NJ in 1844 and married Catherine Martin at Camden, NJ on 27 April 1864. Killed in action 14 August 1864 at the Second Battle of Deep Bottom, VA.
Asch, Myer J. Captain, Co. H. The son of Joseph M. and
Clarissa/Clara (Ulman) Asch, he was born 24 Oct 1831 in Philadelphia, PA. Became Aide de
Camp to General Pope in the Department of the Northwest, then to the
Cavalry Bureau in Washington, DC. In April of 1864 he was assigned to
General Krautz's cavalry and was captured in October of that year.
He became ill at Salsbury Prison and was released in March, 1865. He
died 16 Feb 1890 in New York City. He never married.

Avoy/MacAvoy, James. Private, Co. L. Born ca 1845 in NY, he
married Ann Hard Chevalier 14 Oct 1874 at St. John's Evangelical Church in
New Brunswick, NJ. They had 11 children. He died 25 Sep 1904. During the war he was
captured by Stonewall Jackson's troops while guarding the trains at
Manassas Junction.

Darmstadt, Richard Otto. 2nd Lieutenant, Co. I. He was
born 28 Feb 1842 in Leipzig, Germany. Wounded twice, captured, then
paroled, he was present during the last skirmish with Lee's army before
its surrender. After the war he studied law and married Emma T.Ramisch
15 Sep 1880. He became a judge in Lincoln County, NE and died there in 1887 after being

Springs, Va.
Kane, John. Sergeant, Co. B. He was born ca 1831 and died 26 Dec 1886
at the Home For Disable Veterans in Newark, NJ.
Karge, Joseph. Lieutenant Colonel. The son of a Polish
Cavalry Colonel, he was born in Posen, Prussian Poland 4 Jul 1823.
Graduating from the Universities of Breslau and Berlin, he became an
officer in the Polish cavalry. He emigrated to the United States in
1851, and at the outbreak of the Civil War, was appointed a Lieutenant
Colonel in the First New Jersey Cavalry. While recovering from wounds,
he recruited and became a Colonel in the Second New Jersey Cavalry.
After exhibiting outstanding performance in Grierson's successful
raids in Alabama and Tennessee, he rose in rank to Brigadier General.
Following the war, he became a professor of continental languages and
literature at Princeton University, a position he held until his death
27 Dec 1892. He married Maria T. Williams in 1852 and was the father of two sons.
Kitchen, Marcus Lawrence Ward. Adjutant. He was born
6 Nov 1836 in Newark, NJ and died 28 Aug 1896. He married Julia Anthon
Makee 18 Apr 1872 in Ulupalakua, Maui, HI and in 1880 he was a silk
importer living in Orange, NJ with his wife and three children.

Hannah (Livezey) Radcliffe, both of whom were descendants of old Quaker
families. He married Rebecca Hallowell Brand 30 May 1846 in Bucks
County, PA and was the father of eight children. He died at the Filbert
Street U.S. Army Hospital in Philadelphia, PA 15 Jul 1864 from wounds
received in action at Hawe's Shop, VA. Family tradition says that he
refused to have his leg amputated and ultimately died from blood
poisoning.

an unmarried soldier living at Ft. Lyons, Bent, CO.

Ruple, William S.. Private, Co. B. He was born 29 Aug 1844 in Hunterdon County, NJ and died 29 Aug 1911 in Baker, OR. The son of Samuel and Susan (Hains) Ruple, he married Dinah Matilda Coon 30 Jul 1874 in Evanston, Uintah, UT.

Sawyer (Saeger), Henry Washington. Major. He was born
16 Mar 1829, the son of Henry Saeger. He married (1) Harriet Ware
Eldredge in 1850, and (2) Mary Emma McKissick in 1889. He built the
Chalfonte boarding house in 1876 at Cape May, NJ and operated it until
1888.

Shelmire, Charles J. Wagon Master, Co. A. He was born in
1836 and died in 1914. He married Anna A. (-).
Schneck, George Philip. Private, Co. H. Born ca 1834 in Hesse-Darmstadt (Germany). He married Elizabeth Ott, and had four children. In 1880 he was employed as a cooper and living in Buffalo, NY. Listed was wounded in the arm at the battle of White Sulphur Springs. His records indicate that he had been paid 29 Aug 1864, and there was some question as to whether or not he had been mustered out of service. He was unsuccessful in obtaining a pension.

At Brandy Station he was injured when his horse fell on him. He and
his family lived in NY and IL before removing to England where he died
23 Mar 1908 in Liverpool.

Trullender, Frederick. Private, Co. E. Born ca 1842 in England, in 1880 he was a wheelwright living with his wife Jennie in Lower Alloways Creek, Salem, NJ. He was the proprietor of a machine works when he died in 1893, and had maintained that it was he who had shot the Confederate Colonel Ashby.

Wurts, William W. Lieutenant, Co. I. Born ca 1835 in NJ, he was a widower and blacksmith in 1880 living in Camden, NJ.
Wyndham, Percy. The son of Capt. Charles Wyndham, born at sea
22 Sep 1833. Before coming to America, he served in the French navy,
Austrian cavalry, and Italian Army in Sicily under Garibaldi. He was
knighted by King Victor Emmanuel. A flamboyant soldier of fortune,
Sir Percy sported 10 inches of moustache on either side of his nose,
and in addition he wore long boots and a plumed, slouch hat. During
the Civil War, he was captured, paroled, and later received a leg wound
at Brandy Station, VA. He was mustered out of service 5 Jul 1864 and
rejoined Garibaldi's army in 1866. After traveling to the Far East, he
died in Jan 1879 from a balloon accident near Mandalay, Burma.
Wynkoop, William H. Captain, Co. C. Born 1 Jul 1835 in Bucks
County, PA, the son of Thomas Langstroth and Elizabeth (Torbert) Wynkoop,
he married Rachel A. Blaker 6 Jan 1859. He was engaged in several
battles during the war, and was wounded three times by his own account.
Rising from the rank of private in a NY regiment, he became a member
of the staff of Brig. General Davies, Greggs Cavalry Division, Army of
the Potomac, and was acting as Assistant Adjutant General. After the
war he became occupied as a planter in Newtown, Bucks, PA, and was an
elder in the Presbyterian Church. He died 12 Oct 1910.
Yard, Alexander. Private, Co. L. He was born ca 1841 in NJ and died in 1913, the son of John Yard. He married (1) Sally S. Stokes 10 Jan 1865 in Trenton, NJ, and (2) Sarah Buckalew Dec 1866 in Trenton, NJ. In 1880 he was a farm worker living with his wife Sarah and three children in Imlaystown, Monmouth, NJ.

Sprogel and Adelaide (Patton) Yorke, he was born 7 Jan 1843 in
Wilmington, NC and died in 1893 at Carroll Parrish, LA. He became a
cotton farmer and married Rebecca E. Coleman 11 Nov 1865 in
Claiborne, MS and had two children.
