What is its name? Incandescent Light Bulb
Who invented it? Sir Humphry Davy, an English scientist
When was it invented? 1812
Some others who improved the light bulb were Joseph Wilson Swan, Charles Francis Brush, Thomas Alva Edison, Willis R. Whitney, and William David Collidge.
How does it work? It passes an electrical current through a platinum coil inside a tube from which air has been pumped, and produces light. The key part of the light bulb was the metal filiment that conducted the electricity. The metal filiment was platinum, but it was too expensive. So, this lead scientists on a search for more efficent and inexpensive material.
