EATING OUT

When you're eating out, some of your concerns may be...
-Is the soup/chowder made with chicken or beef broth?
-Are the vegetables and meat cut by the same knife or on the same cutting board?
-Are the veggie burgers grilled with the hamburgers?
-Is there lard in the refried beans or in the baked goods?
-Is substitution allowed? (For example, can you get the chicken, broccoli, and ziti without the chicken?)

And if you're vegan...
-Are the vegetables sautéed in butter?
-Does the food contain milk? (esp. relevant for chowders and baked goods)
-How about eggs? (relevant for baked goods, some baked dishes/casseroles)

Be sure to ask your waiter or waitress if you're not sure. And specify what you can and cannot eat. For example:
DON'T: "I'm a vegetarian."
DO: "I'm vegetarian. I don't eat fish or meat. Do you have any reccommendations?"
