Back from the '80s it's ... ripped jeans!
The trend once loved by Debbie Gibson fans and, uh, bums is making a comeback in Hollywood with a twist - they're skinny ripped jeans.
Lindsay Lohan, Kate Beckinsale, Nicole Richie and Lauren Conrad have all donned the cool-again look in recent months, with Beckinsale going so far as to wear her jeans on the red carpet.
Why, decades later, is this suddenly hip again?
"People are trying to recycle things in this economy," explains Amanda Sanders, a style consultant for New York Image Consultants. "The skinny jeans were a very popular item last year."
But those who are young at heart shouldn't try the look on for size if they plan to follow fashion's rigid rules. Says Sanders: "It's an age-appropriate thing."
Odds are, Richie and Co. aren't slicing up their old duds (Intuition sells Lohan's Jet Thrashed jeans for $200), but regular folks will - and soon.
"The trend will trickle down immediately," Sanders says. "We'll see it next week."
